How many cyclones occur each year?On average there are about five cyclones that occur off the Northwest coast between 105 and 125°E each cyclone season. About half of these become severe tropical cyclones and about half have an impact on the coastline. On average there is one severe cyclone that impacts the coast each season. There are an average of 7 to 8 cyclones that occur in the Perth TCWC area of responsibility between 90 and 125°E. There are an average of 14 cyclones that occur over the entire Australian region from 90 to 160°E which represents 16 % of the global total. The map of the incidence of cyclones in the Australian region shows an area north of Port Hedland has the maximum occurrence of cyclones.
