3-4 July 2005

Severe wind gusts were reported in the southwest. No damage was reported.

 

12-13 July 2005

Severe wind gusts were reported in the lower southwest. No damage was reported.

 

16 July 2005

Tornadoes were observed in the Dowerin area. No property damage was reported.

 

20 July 2005

Severe winds caused localised damage in Bunbury in particular. Cape Leeuwin recorded 61 knots (113 km/h).

 

1 August 2005

Severe winds unroofed one house and damaged several house in Bunbury at 1730 WST. Minor damage was also reported in Perth.

 

12-13 August 2005

Severe winds occurred in the Southwest and Lower West districts with minor damage reported in Mandurah.

 

16 August 2005

Tornado damage occurred in Geraldton and Leeman. Minor damage was reported in Perth and Mandurah.

 

17 August 2005

A strong cold front an associated low pressure system crossed the west coast in the afternoon and evening. At about 10pm strong winds in Geraldton (Geraldton Airport - 98km/h) resulted in widespread damage to trees, fences, sheds and roofs. One house had its roof ripped off. A suspected tornado unroofed a property in the Perth suburb of Oakford (inland from Kwinana).

 

29 August 2005

Minor wind damage was reported in Albany between 8 and 9pm. Street signs bent over.

 

5-6 September 2005

A strong front caused severe wind damage from Badgingarra (tornado) to Pemberton. Several suspected tornadoes in Perth including at Canning Vale on the evening of the 5th.

 

13 September 2005

Several houses in Australind were damaged by severe winds.

 

17 September 2005

Two swathes of tornado damage in Perth at 4am, one through City Beach to Subiaco, the other from Kallaroo to Kingsley. More minor wind damage was also reported across Perth. Other tornado damage occurred at Cowaramup and Australind.

 

16 October 2005

Hail damage occurred in the Lake Grace area with damage expected at over $10 million.

 

25 October 2005

A squall line at Kununurra caused damage to several high school buildings in particular.

 

14 November 2005

Houses were unroofed at Warburton during thunderstorms. Gusts of 172 km/h were recorded.

 

26 December 2005 -2 January 2006

The first monsoonal rains of the season extended to the Goldfields and Eucla. The Trans-Australian railway line was cut 600 km east of Kalgoorlie.

 

7 January 2006

Several houses in Beverley and York sustained damage. Cunderdin registered a gust of 113 km/h while a Cadoux farmer received 95 mm of rain in one hour.

 

8 January 2006

A storm caused a swathe of wind damage at least 40km long north of Salmon Gums.

 

10-13 January 2006

The remnants of TC Clare produced flooding as far south as Lake Grace (277mm in 24 hours) where extensive damage occurred. Floods also caused damage along the Greenough River, although sandbagging minimised the impact at Walkaway.

 

12 January 2006

Severe winds (98 km/h) were recorded on a squall line at Wyndham.

 

16 January 2006

Severe winds (124 km/h) were recorded on a squall line at Port Hedland.

 

17 January 2006

Severe winds caused major roof damage to many houses in Coolgardie at 3pm. Tree branches littered the town and hail to golf-ball size blanketed the town white.

 

18 January 2006

Severe winds (135 km/h) flipped over planes and caused property damage in Newman.

 

19 January 2006

A thunderstorm caused wind gusts causing ships to break their mooring in Dampier Port at about 6pm.

 

7 February 2006

Dust enveloped Meekatharra at 1:50pm while winds snapped tree branches around town.

 

10 February 2006

Minor flooding occurred at Carnamah where 33mm of rain fell in half an hour.

 

11 February 2006

At Goomalling a storm cut a swathe of damage through bushland for 10 km.

 

21 February 2006

Storms caused wind damage in the Lower West and Wheatbelt adjoining Perth and Pearce reported gusts of 100 km/h and a Skywest plane was damaged when pushed into a hangar.

 

28 February-15 March 2006

The remains of TC Emma, a weak monsoonal-type system of category 1 intensity that crossed the Pilbara coast near Mardie on 28 February, caused extensive flooding through the Pilbara and also on the Murchison River. The Murchison flood was described by many as the worst flooding since settlement. Floodwaters peaked at Kalbarri late on the 15th March but although low-lying parts of the town were flooded, sandbagging protected the town centre from inundation.

 

25 April 2006

Severe winds were reported in the southwest. Minor damage in Perth.

 

23 May 2006 Lightning caused blackouts across Perth while several houses sustained roof damage particularly in Port Kennedy.
