The remains
of TC Emma, a weak monsoonal-type system of category 1 intensity
that crossed the Pilbara coast near Mardie on 28 February, caused
extensive flooding through the Pilbara and also on the Murchison
River. The Murchison flood was described by many as the worst flooding
since settlement. Floodwaters peaked at Kalbarri late on the 15th
March but although low-lying parts of the town were flooded, sandbagging
protected the town centre from inundation.
