Severe Thunderstorm Summary July 1997 to June 1998

5 September 1997

A tornado and associated hail damaged crops near Kukerin. Another tornado damaged a pine plantation near Gnangara.

11 September 1997

Tornado sighted near Ravensthorpe.

11 November 1997

Hail and heavy rain damaged crops in a swathe about 70km long in the Carnamah - Watheroo area (Central West).

12 November 1997

A tornado and hail to 4 cm reported near Balgair (Eucla District).

12 November 1997

Large hail, 5 small tornados, and severe squalls at Bamboo Creek east of Port Hedland.

7 January 1998

Roof damage at Mullewa due to strong squalls.

21 January 1998

A storm caused a damaging wind gust to 105km/h at Forreat (Eucla District).

3 March 1998

A strong tornado destroyed a shed and trees near Boyup Brook. Path stretched for approximately 3 kilometres.

16 April 1998

Flash flooding occurred near Menzies due to 75mm of rain.

17 April 1998

A Bureau storm spotter observed a weak tornado near Toodyay.

26 May 1998

A rapidly deepening low pressure system produced gale force winds near the SW coast with reports of minor damage to roofs.

28 May 1998

Strong fronts damaged several properties in the Bunbury area

7-9 June 1998

Strong fronts caused damage in some towns in the SW. A tornado destroyed an electricity tower near Southern Cross on the 8th.
