Queensland in July 2011: Cooler nights and average rainfall for the month
- Below average minimum temperatures were recorded for about 40% of the state;
- Around 58% of the state received average rainfall, with 30% above (mainly in the west) and 12% below (including the far
north and southeast); - Only one major record was broken this month.

Rainfall
The Queensland area averaged rainfall was 12.46 mm, which was less than half of that received in 2010.
The wettest overall was Topaz Alert with 139.0 mm, followed by Daradgee with 83.1 mm, followed by Noosaville with 78.0 mm.
Some sites had their lowest total July rainfall on record. Some sites had their lowest total July rainfall for at least 20 years.The wettest single day was at Caloundra Airport with 48.0 mm on the 16th, followed by Corbould Pk Racecourse with 46.0 mm on the 16th, followed by Noosaville with 44.6 mm on the 16th.

The Queensland area averaged mean temperature anomaly (see notes section) was -0.32 °C, which was the lowest since 2007.
The warmest on average was Coconut Island with 26.8 °C, followed by Horn Island with 25.8 °C, followed by Weipa Aero with 24.6 °C.
The coolest on average was Applethorpe with 7.3 °C, followed by Stanthorpe Leslie Parade with 7.4 °C, followed by Oakey Aero with 9.3 °C, followed by Warwick with 9.3 °C.

The Queensland area averaged maximum temperature anomaly was 0.29 °C, which was the lowest since 2008.
The hottest day was at Kowanyama Airport with 33.1 °C on the 17th, followed by Musgrave with 33.0 °C on the 17th, followed by Kowanyama Airport with 32.8 °C on the 16th, followed by Palmerville with 32.8 °C on the 17th, followed by Weipa Aero with 32.8 °C on the 31st.
The warmest days on average were at Kowanyama Airport with 30.5 °C, followed by Weipa Aero with 30.5 °C, followed by Scherger RAAF with 30.2 °C, followed by Musgrave with 30.1 °C, followed by Palmerville with 30.1 °C.

Notes
A Monthly Climate Summary is prepared to list the main features of the weather in Queensland using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. Later information, including data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review, usually published in the fourth week of the month.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 10 am on Monday 1 August 2011. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
Averages are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 9 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
The temperature anomalies are the differences to the respective 1961-1990 averages.
Please note that the rainfall data from telemetry gauges (those with ALERT, AL or TM in their names) may be from non-Bureau owned stations and includes real-time operational data from automated systems and has not been checked.Further information
