Queensland in June 2014: Warm start to June, dry across the southeast

June 2014 was warmer than normal for most of Queensland; the state mean temperature was 1.19 °C above average. Both daytime and overnight temperatures were above average during the first half of June, while cooler conditions set in during the last week as bursts of cold southerly winds  pushed through the southern half of the State.

Overall for the month, maximum temperatures were much warmer than average in the southeast and southern inland areas, while minimum temperatures were well above average along the coast south of about Rockhampton, as well as in the northern tropics.

Rainfall in June was mostly above average across the northern tropics and the far northern Gulf of Carpentaria and parts of far southwestern Queensland. Below average rainfall was recorded in the southeast including along the coast and in adjacent inland areas. The state-wide average rainfall of 16.4 mm was 12 % below the historical average
