Australia's Indian Ocean islands
- A low pressure system in the monsoon trough brought several days of moderate rain and relatively cool weather to Christmas Island early in the month
- Christmas Island Airport registered an above-average 342.8 mm of rainfall for the month
- Mean monthly temperatures on Christmas Island were a little warmer than average
- Tropical cyclone Savannah passed to the west of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands on the 14th, but brought only moderate rain
- Cocos Islands Airport received 86.4 mm of rainfall for the month, about one-third of the long-term March average
- Temperatures at Cocos Islands Airport were about half a degree warmer than average
Australia's Pacific Ocean islands
- Lord Howe Island had its warmest March on record, with the airport setting new records for highest March mean daily maximum temperature and highest March mean daily minimum temperature
- Included in the warm weather on Lord Howe Island was a minimum temperature of 24.1 °C on the 26th, the warmest March night (highest daily minimum temperature) on record
- Lord Howe Island Airport's maximum temperature of 28.1 °C on the 25th was just 0.1 °C off the highest March temperature recorded at the site (in 2015 and 2011)
- A low pressure trough brought moderate rain to Lord Howe Island on 18th and again on the 19th, but total rainfall for the month was only about three-quarters of the March average
- An almost stationary trough brought over 290 mm of rain to Norfolk Island in the 60 hours between 5 am on the 14th and 5 pm on the 17th, including 71.6 mm in 2 hours on the afternoon of the 15th
- Norfolk Island Airport's rainfall for the month of 318.6 mm was its wettest March since 1962 and the wettest month since December 2011
- Temperatures were more than a degree above the March average on Norfolk Island
Australia's Antarctic and sub-Antarctic territories
- Temperatures were a little warmer than average at Mawson, despite a week of cold weather from the 16th
- At Davis, it was almost a degree warmer than the March average, despite temperatures dropping well below average to -18.7 °C on the 21st
- Casey's mean maximum temperature was almost a degree above average, and its mean minimum temperature was about one and a half degrees above average
- Macquarie Island had only a few especially cold days, and was about a degree warmer than average overall
- Rainfall on Macquarie Island was above average, with much of the total coming from a front and low pressure system near the middle of the month, and further rain from another front and low near the end of the month

Most values are the precipitation in the 24 hours to 9 am on the day indicated.
Days marked with → are part of a longer accumulation, which is shown on the final day. Values over 100 mm have been rounded to the nearest whole millimetre. Days marked with - have a precipitation report of zero; days left blank have no precipitation report (which often indicates no precipitation fell). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Notes
The Monthly climate summary, generally published on the first working day of each month, lists the main features of the weather in Remote Islands and Antarctica using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. More extensive discussion of significant weather events, along with later information and data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 2 pm on Monday 1 April 2019. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
In some situations, some or all of the precipitation is in the form of hail or snow. In these cases the totals given are for the water equivalent: the depth of liquid water that results from melting any frozen precipitation. There can be significant 'undercatch' of snow in strong winds, meaning the true precipitation can be higher than that reported.
Averages for individual sites are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 10 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average precipitation.
The Rank indicates how precipitation this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low precipitation is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much precipitation has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
Where temperature area averages are mentioned, they are derived from the ACORN-SAT dataset.
