A cool wet start to June brought an early ski season.
Some high totals and flooding but close to average winter rainfall

- Several cold fronts brought heavy rainfall and flooding at times.
- A Tasman Low stalled in Bass Strait on the 13 and 14 August, bringing multi-day rainfall totals of 50 to 100 mm over Gippsland, major flooding along the Moe River at Darnum, and minor flooding at Traralgon and Iona.
- On 29 August thunderstorms crossed western Victoria, bringing localised intense rainfall and flash flooding.
- Snowy Creek in the state's north-east, recorded Victoria's highest winter total of 657.2 mm.
- Madayla had the wettest day, recording 103.2 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am on 16 August.

Near average daytime temperatures, milder nights in the south-west and the east
- Averaged across Victoria, the mean maximum temperature was 13.18 °C, 0.15 °C above the 1961–1990 mean. Daytime temperatures were above average from Melbourne to the Otways, below average near the central-west border region, and average elsewhere.

An early ski season, August storms
- At the start of June, some alpine ski resorts opened a week earlier than planned after reporting up to 50 cm of snow falling in 48 hours. Snow flurries also fell in the central-west highlands.
- The strongest recorded wind gust was 137 km/h, at Mount Hotham on the 5 June during the passage of a cold front.
- There were areas of morning fog across the state, particularly along the Victorian coast on 18 June.
- Many parts of Victoria experienced large areas of frost in the third week of July, when night-time temperatures plummeted due to clear skies and light winds under a high-pressure system.
- A series of cold fronts in August brought high winds and some damaging storms. Severe thunderstorms affected western Victoria on 29 August with large hail reported around Mildura and Wentworth, and smaller hail reported at Kaniva. Flash flooding was reported at Horsham, Dimboola and Portland, and wind gusts of 100 km/h were recorded at Horsham.

Notes
The Seasonal climate summary, usually published in the first week of the following month, lists the main features of the weather in Victoria using the most timely and accurate information available on the date of publication; it will generally not be updated. More extensive discussion of significant weather events, along with later information and data that has had greater opportunity for quality control, will be presented in the Monthly Weather Review.
This statement has been prepared based on information available at 1 pm on Monday 5 September 2022. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
In some situations, some or all of the rainfall is in the form of hail or snow. In these cases the totals given are for the water equivalent: the depth of liquid water that results from melting any frozen precipitation. There can be significant 'undercatch' of snow in strong winds, meaning the true precipitation can be higher than that reported.
Averages for individual sites are long-term means based on observations from
all available years of record, which vary widely from site to site.
They are not shown for sites with less than 10 years of record, as they cannot then be calculated reliably.
The median
is sometimes more representative than the
mean
of long-term average rain.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
average in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of average shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
Where temperature area averages are mentioned, they are derived from the ACORN-SAT dataset.
Information about Australian Indigenous seasonal calendars is available at the Indigenous Weather Knowledge website.
