Rainfall Update

High rainfall totals in western Tasmania and elevated areas in Victoria and southern New South Wales

  • A series of cold fronts and troughs brought rainfall across most of southern Australia.
  • Weekly totals of 5 to 25 mm with some locally higher totals were recorded along the coast in the south-west, and across much of the south of South Australia and southern New South Wales.
  • Large areas of southern South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and south-eastern New South Wales had weekly totals above 25 mm, and totals above 100 mm in some elevated areas.
  • The highest weekly total (at a Bureau gauge) was 257.8 mm at Falls Creek in Victoria.
  • The highest daily total (at a Bureau gauge) was 90.0 mm at Perisher Valley AWS in New South Wales, in the 24 hours to 9 am on 27 August.
