Licensing information for data providers
The Bureau publishes information relating to water, supplied by many organisations. Each organisation has its own licensing and attribution requirements.
When we publish information:
- data owners still own their information
- we share applicable licensing information with users.
We recommend that data owners use the Creative Commons Attribution Licence (CC-BY) for data provided under the Water Regulations 2008.
About the CC-BY licence
This licence permits the broadest reuse of information. It meets the objectives of the Water Act 2007, while protecting the data supplier's copyright. It allows the community to:
- use the information, without having to directly contact the data owner
- share (copy and distribute), remix or adapt the information, provided they attribute the data owner as the copyright holder. They can't do this in a way that suggests the data owner endorses them or their use of the material.
To use the licence
This licence is free. You just need to advise us in writing:
- to apply the licence to your information
- how you would like the information to be attributed. For example: © State of Queensland (Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water).
As the data owner, your organisation retains property rights, such as copyright, for its information. This means only your organisation can apply the licence – we can't do this for you.
