Water markets reporting

You may have to provide information relating to water markets to the Bureau of Meteorology if your organisation is a:

  • government agency
  • irrigation infrastructure operator
  • trading platform operator.

There are legal requirements to report:

  • water markets decisions from 1 July 2026
  • specified water markets information from 1 July 2027.

The aim is to improve the availability, consistency and transparency of information about water markets activity in the Murray–Darling Basin.

Submit water markets data – Water Data Hub

Organisations can use the Water Data Hub to submit Murray–Darling Basin:

  • water markets decisions (Part 5A) from 1 July 2026
  • water markets information (Part 7A) from 1 July 2027. There will be opportunities to test this before reporting starts.

Data providers submit information in the hub by:

  • application programming interface (API)
  • secure file transfer protocol (SFTP)
  • file upload
  • form entry.
