A wet and windy week kicking off across the south. Let's take a look at the weather around the country for tomorrow, Friday, August 7.
A cloud band will continue streaming over inland Western Australia and parts of South Australia on Friday. Behind it comes a strong cold front which will reach south-west Western Australia later in the day before continuing across southern Australia over the course of the weekend.
Elsewhere, the dry season is in full swing across northern Australia with just a few light showers along parts of the Queensland coast.
Let's go around the grounds, starting with Queensland. A sunny day for most of the Sunshine State. Just a few isolated showers along the coast north of Mackay. A chilly morning in the south, then a mild to warm and sunny day. Brisbane 24 °C and sunny.
For New South Wales, plenty of morning frost and fog, particularly on and west of the ranges. Then a dry and partly cloudy day almost statewide. Sydney, 18 °C, the top and sunny conditions.
Canberra, a frosty start with -5 °C on the forecast there, and then a mostly sunny top of 16 °C.
In Victoria, a few showers sweep across the south during the early morning, and then cloud and showers persist mainly about the ranges in north-westerly flow during the day. Melbourne will see a partly cloudy day with a top of 16 °C, with early morning showers possible.
Dry for most of Tasmania, with showers just along the west coast and ranges. High cloud thickening later in the day. Hobart, a top of 15 °C and cloudy.
As we head west to South Australia, the weather starts to get more interesting. Northerly winds increasing, with showers and patchy rain extending from the west during the day. A possible storm or two along the far west coast as well. Generally dry conditions across eastern districts. Adelaide, a sunny start and then showers arriving in the evening. A mild top of 19 °C.
In Western Australia, we'll see patchy light rain for parts of the Gascoyne and interior districts. Then, looking further south, showers coming in from the west across much of the South West Land Division during the day. Winds increasing as this cold front approaches. It reaches the south-west coast in the late evening and brings a risk of thunderstorms along the coast, as well as a large swell. Perth, a top of 19 °C with showers and the slight risk of a storm along the coast.
Sunny across the Top End, with just a few fog patches in the morning. Some areas of smoke haze again, with plenty of fires in the landscape up north. For Darwin, a sunny top of 32 °C.
