Showers and hazardous surf along the east coast, and more wet weather for the western deserts. G'day from the bureau. David here to take a look with you at the weather across the country for tomorrow, Friday, September 11th. And for most of the country, it'll be a very similar day to Thursday.

The weather is evolving really slowly at the moment with this big, strong, high pressure system barely moving over the Southern Ocean. So it's still extending quite a strong ridge up the East Coast. So pretty breezy conditions there, particularly through the northern half of New South Wales and up through Queensland, with some showers coming ashore there too.

Meanwhile, in the west we've still got this trough of low pressure. It's been sitting there for about four days now, producing showers and thunderstorms across inland parts of Western Australia. They're beginning to weaken, but there's still a few left tomorrow and a cold front just approaching south-west WA late on Friday. That, of course, will impact on Saturday.

So let's go around the grounds now, starting with Queensland, where it'll be a pretty cool to mild day for the East Coast. So most centres here along the East Coast about 2 to 3 °C below their September average. Brisbane going for a shower or two with a top of 22 °C. And the showers will push a little further inland, particularly along the northern half of the coast there, with the winds turning a bit more easterly compared to Thursday's south-easterly winds.

For New South Wales and the ACT, the strong and gusty winds of Thursday will back off a bit on Friday, so it won't be quite as chilly along the coast and temperatures typically a couple of degrees warmer than on Thursday. Still some showers around north of about Newcastle and particularly up around the Northern Rivers as well.

Plenty of sunshine as you head further south along the south coast, the ACT and west of the ranges as well. So pleasant conditions and clear skies there. And of course, Hazardous Surf Warning as well for much of the East Coast from the Batemans Coast all the way up to the Byron Coast tomorrow. So we've got a long period of about one and a half to two metres, which is coming from well south in the Tasman Sea, and that can make conditions hazardous along the coast, particularly for anyone on the beach, for boaties and for rock fishers. So stay across the conditions there if you're heading anywhere near the beach for New South Wales tomorrow. So for Sydney a mostly sunny top of 20 °C on Friday and for Canberra a chilly start, maybe a bit of fog around in the morning and then a sunny top of 21 °C.

For Victoria it'll be a pleasant day, pretty much statewide, warming up a little north of the ranges with plenty of sunshine, a little cooler in the south with some morning cloud mostly clearing during the afternoon, including for Melbourne. So really pleasant conditions for the NFL match at the MCG during the day tomorrow. Although quite chilly, a top of 16 °C on the forecast for Melbourne. But when the winds come off the bay at this time of year from the south it can feel quite chilly despite the sunshine in Melbourne.

For Tasmania, very similar day to yesterday again, so dry south-westerly winds extending right across the state that leads to quite warm temperatures in Launceston and along the east coast, so reaching 22 °C in Launceston there and a sunny top of 18 °C for Hobart. Further west, a little cooler and just 1 or 2 showers about the far south-west of Tasmania.

For South Australia again, pretty much a rinse and repeat of Thursday's weather, so plenty of sunshine across the majority of the state. Easterly winds, Adelaide going for a sunny top of 21 °C and some showers and a few thunderstorms about the far west of the state, possibly reaching to around Ceduna later in the evening on Friday.

For Western Australia, you can see that trough. It's been sitting there for a number of days. It's starting to weaken now, but it's still generating showers and thunderstorms through Friday. And you can see those through the south-east interior mainly here. So some areas in eastern WA have seen 40 mm to 60 mm of rain through some of the very few rain gauges that we have in that part of the world. So there's a lot of water around there at the moment. As you head further west, the winds are turning around to the north on Friday, so temperatures are increasing, Kalgoorlie reaching a top of 24 °C after a few days of really cool and cloudy conditions, and Perth reaching a mostly sunny top of 26 °C.

And lastly for the Northern Territory, a sunny top of 35 °C for Darwin. A few showers coming ashore along the Gulf Coast and into parts of Arnhem Land, and a few showers as well down south around Uluru and the Red Centre.
