Hello. It's meteorologist Angus Hines at the Bureau of Meteorology. Let's check out the weather forecast for the country for Wednesday, the 28th of October.

And as we progress through the week this week, we're going to see a real north-to-south divide set up across Australia, with northern areas seeing plenty of tropical moisture. That's going to fuel more showers and thunderstorms across Queensland, where we've seen lots of that over the past week.

Also, much of the Northern Territory will see some wet weather with some potential for stormy conditions. Even parts of Western Australia, mostly through the interior here, getting a taste of that.

Meanwhile, the southern half of the country, really influenced by this high pressure system, that means a much calmer and more relaxed weather pattern for most southern areas, although it is quite chilly around Victoria and Tasmania.

Let's do the state-by-state flyover now, and we have a risk of showers or storms for most of Queensland. Much like we have for the last several days, they will be a little bit hit and miss in many areas, so not everyone is guaranteed to get some rainfall. But our highest risk areas are from the Sunshine Coast up to about Airlie Beach across the east coast, pushing right inland to about as far as Blackall. So that gives us a big region through central Queensland, where we're looking likely to get some showers and storms tomorrow afternoon, maybe severe storms with heavy rainfall. Other areas, including Brisbane in the south-east, as well as much of the southern interior, just a moderate chance of getting some rainfall tomorrow. They should see some lengthy fine spells. Temperatures across the state within a degree or two of average almost everywhere.

A cool, sunny and a little bit breezy day for New South Wales tomorrow. The wind is coming up from the south-west, and it will be blowing at least moderately strongly in most locations. And the dry conditions combined with that wind are actually driving some high fire dangers, even though the temperatures aren't that warm, especially around Newcastle and the Hunter, where we have Extreme Fire Danger in place for tomorrow with a Fire Weather Warning. It should be a dry day across the state. Maybe the lightest of light showers between Wollongong and Coffs Harbour during the afternoon, but very little expected to land in the rain gauges. Cold morning inland, a mild day with plenty of sunshine. Canberra going between 3 and 19 degrees during the day.

Quite cool once again for Victoria on Wednesday. South-westerly winds will see to that. There'll be partly cloudy skies and some passing light showers for our southern areas and our western areas, that does include Melbourne. Could see one or two showers around the middle of the day. Not a lot of rain, just a little drop here and there, with a high of 18. It will be dry and a little bit warmer for northern areas, pushing into the low 20s, but some pretty cool morning and overnight temperatures.

The weather in Tasmania is pretty much copy and paste from Tuesday into Wednesday. Another day with that south-westerly wind keeping temperatures in the upper teens around Hobart. We might just push into the low 20s through parts of the north-east. Showers throughout the day across the west coast, but minimal rainfall elsewhere. Maybe a light shower in Hobart, but should be plenty of clear sky as well.

Most of South Australia will have a settled day. Some morning showers around Mount Gambier that'll clear up. And then after that, everywhere south of Port Augusta will have a pretty fine Wednesday. The sun is out. The wind is light. It is a fairly relaxed day, not particularly warm. Adelaide heading for a high of 20, and we're similar through surrounding areas. Through the north and west of the state, pretty remote areas, but we could see some showers or storms across the Nullarbor and the pastoral districts.

Another quite warm and sunny day for Perth and all of south-western Western Australia tomorrow. 29 °C in the capital there, with 28 °C up through parts of the Wheatbelt, like Northam and 27 °C around Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Cooler and windier, but still dry for the south coast. You can see some signals for rainfall here around Geraldton, also pushing inland, mostly north of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, but perhaps a few storms over these outback areas. North of this dashed trough line should be mostly fine weather up around the Gascoyne and the Pilbara.

Finally, to Australia's north, we are continuing to see the wet season ramp up here, with extensive showers and storms getting going through the afternoon, but not prolonged weather, wet weather all day, just spurts of it as those clouds build directly overhead. That said, we could see some fairly active conditions with the risk of severe storms around Uluru and Alice Springs in the south. Probably no severe storms up in the north, but we might still get some localised pockets of quite heavy rainfall, and there's a chance that could affect parts of the Darwin-Palmerston area.

Stay up to date throughout the week ahead with your forecast information on the bureau's website and app. Thanks for watching. Have a wonderful day.
