Hello, it's Angus here at the Bureau of Meteorology. Today's Tuesday, the 13th of October. Let's check out the national weather forecast for Wednesday.
And yesterday, Monday, some really powerful, punchy storms around the Red Centre, particularly Alice Springs. That's a chance again as we head into Wednesday. We will see some storm activity bubbling up around central Australia, also parts of the east coast.
Now that's likely to be through central and eastern parts of Queensland, where we could see the majority of the storm activity for our eastern states. Elsewhere, this big high down here south of South Australia is really starting to flex its muscle, expand a little bit and bring some fairly settled but slightly cool conditions across most of Australia's south.
And we also have this cold front to deal with, although still off the coast. At the end of the day, we can see a little bit of rain already heading into the Perth area by Wednesday evening. So state by state, get a bit more detail.
Starting in Queensland, it's an extensive risk of showers and isolated thunderstorms extending all the way from Brisbane and the south-east right up towards Longreach and Mount Isa in the north-west.
Now, over inland parts of Queensland, those showers and storms will be fairly isolated, very hit and miss, and a lot of people won't notice them. But out towards the east coast, certainly expect the coverage to be a bit more extensive.
So wet weather from Brisbane up to about Rockhampton and Yeppoon, the risk of storms actually looking strongest around the Capricornia and the Wide Bay-Burnett region, as well as inland up towards the Central Tablelands.
If you're in those districts, keep an eye out for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings tomorrow, where damaging winds, heavy rain or large hail could occur.
For the New South Wales coast, from Newcastle up to the Queensland border, frequent showers off and on throughout the day tomorrow. Really feeling like quite a wet day from Sydney southwards on the coast.
Probably no showers at all or maybe an early one clearing up to being mostly dry, but staying fairly cloudy across the entire New South Wales coast.
Fairly cool, maximum temperatures in the upper teens. Sydney tracking for 19 °C. Inland, parts of the state will have quite a brisk morning. Canberra kicking off the day at just three degrees. A fairly pleasant and settled afternoon with mostly sunny skies.
Cool temperatures expected through Victoria during the morning hours as well. Take a look at some of these early morning minimums, like three degrees at Wangaratta and Albury-Wodonga, three degrees at Ballarat, just two degrees at Horsham.
At first, that could mean we see a light little smattering of frost, particularly if you live at elevation. The day will be a dry and settled one. It won't be completely blue skies and sunshine for many. There'll be a bit of cloud in the mix, but the wind won't be strong and we're not expecting rainfall across Victoria tomorrow.
Maximum temperatures on the cool side of average. Melbourne tracking for a high of 16 °C.
An early shower is possible in the south or the west of Tasmania. That should clear up throughout the course of the morning and the rest of the day will be dry, becoming really calm, actually. High pressure moving in, that's going to kill away any wind flow.
So it will be a nice, settled second half of the day. Again, a mixture of sunshine and cloud expected for those overhead conditions in most areas. Top temperatures a little below average. Hobart 16 °C as a high and Launceston 17 °C.
South Australia has a similar trend, where it will be quite cold in the morning. Lots of single-digit temperatures through the early hours of Wednesday, but a settled and relaxed and mild afternoon, temperatures tracking to around about 20 °C along southern parts of the state, including Adelaide, which has a high bang on 20 °C.
It will be a touch warmer in parts of the north. Maybe a shower or even a thunderstorm around parts of the pastoral districts should be clearing up in the afternoon.
We've got a bright and sunny morning through Western Australia, heading towards a pretty warm afternoon across the west coast. Perth up to 31 °C, Geraldton up to 32 °C. Inland spots, a few degrees cooler, but everywhere is on the warm side of average.
It will cloud over across the South West Land Division, including Perth, in the afternoon and then a little bit of rainfall before the end of the day. Just some light patchy showers here, probably after sunset around the coast, but rain kicking in overnight and into Thursday morning as this front makes its way onshore.
Further north, it will stay dry from Geraldton up towards the Pilbara. Those temperatures in the mid to upper 20s along the coast, but the mid to upper 30s inland. And we did have those really powerful storms around Alice yesterday. Could certainly be repeated on Wednesday.
We've got a risk of thunderstorms, including the potential for Severe Thunderstorms through parts of the Simpson area. The Lasseter, the Tanami district as well could see the possibility of some afternoon showers and storms that really do get going and bring severe weather impacts across southern parts of the Territory.
Keep your eye out for any warnings which may be issued. Further north, including around Darwin, probably not seeing any Severe Thunderstorms, but certainly a humid day where we could see an afternoon shower or two and wouldn't rule out a standard spring thunderstorm up there, including across the Tiwi.
Not looking like that's going to extend right out to Broome. It will stay dry and a little humid out that way. And that's how we're looking for tomorrow.
If you want to recap on any of that detail, you can find your forecast at the usual spots online or on our app. Thank you for watching. We'll be back with another update tomorrow.
