Hello, Sarah from the Bureau here with your National weather forecast for tomorrow. That's Tuesday, the 17th of February.

So we'll start off by taking a look at tomorrow's synoptic map. We're expecting hot, dry and gusty north-westerly winds to elevate fire dangers across the south-east, and that's ahead of this cold front that will bring some cooler conditions, and also showers and storms developing during the afternoon.

Across the tropical north, widespread showers and thunderstorms with the potential for heavy rainfall in the vicinity of any of the troughs or this low pressure system, while out in the west, this ridge of high pressure bringing settled, clear and mostly sunny conditions.

So let's go around the country now, state-by-state, taking a closer look, starting with Queensland.

Queensland forecast. Now hit and miss showers are forecast across much of the state apart from the south-east interior, with those showers tending more scattered as we head further north. There's also a risk of thunderstorms throughout the far west, and also across the tropical north, and the run of cooler than average conditions is expected to continue.

For Brisbane, a partly cloudy day with a slight chance of a shower, most likely during the morning or the afternoon. A top of 28 °C.

New South Wales forecast. Now down in New South Wales, we're expecting a mostly dry and sunny day across much of the state, with just the risk of a shower about the northern coast and adjacent ranges. Also, there is a chance of a thunderstorm developing through the west during the afternoon.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the mid to high 20s about the coast, but quickly grading to the low 30s as we head further inland. For Sydney, mostly sunny day and a top of 27 °C.

While for Canberra, ACT forecast, morning fog patches clearing to a sunny afternoon, a top of 30 °C.

Down in Victoria, we're Victoria forecast expecting it to be a hot, dry and windy morning, with cloud increasing from the west and a line of showers and storms that will push into the far western areas during the late morning, but reaching the Central district during the evening.

For Melbourne, it's going to be hot, dry and windy during the morning, with that cold front that's forecast to move through the CBD around 6 pm, bringing with it showers and the risk of a thunderstorm. A maximum of 36 °C for Melbourne, but that temperature will quickly drop behind the front, 10 °C to 15 °C in its wake.

Tasmania forecast. So down in Tasmania, we're also expecting a hot, dry and mostly sunny day across the state. Daytime temperatures well above average, ahead of cloud starting to move in during the afternoon and showers and the risk of a storm extending throughout by evening.

For Hobart, a mostly sunny morning, with showers and the risk of a thunderstorm developing during the afternoon.

South Australia forecast. For South Australia, we've got showers and storms across the south-east and as well a few showers and storms about the far north as well. Daytime temperatures are expected to be above average on the eastern side of that trough, much cooler in the west in those southerly winds.

For Adelaide, showers and the risk of a thunderstorm clearing during the afternoon, a top of 31 °C.

Out in WA, we're expecting dry, Western Australia forecast settled and sunny conditions across much of the southern parts, with daytime temperatures well below average in southerly winds.

For Perth, a sunny day and a top of 29 °C.

Northern Territory forecast. For our tropical north, really active, with showers and storms extending right throughout, and there is a risk of heavy rainfall in the vicinity of this low pressure system developing in the Kimberley. But as well, any storms that form in the vicinity of those troughs.

For Darwin, a shower or two and the risk of a thunderstorm, a top of 32 °C.
