Hello from the Bureau of Meteorology. I'm Angus. This is the national weather forecast. We're going to take a look at Wednesday's weather.

And the story for Wednesday is all about one big, powerful weather system.

This low-pressure here crossing Tasmania during the day, really exerting an influence across the weather for South Australia, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria and of course, Tasmania as it gradually drifts to the east.

Wet and windy across this corner of the country down here.

Away from the influence of this low-pressure region, it is settled, clear and sunny across the north and through most of Western Australia as well.

That means Queensland a fine, dry day up here. The dry season started off a little shaky, but it has firmly arrived now.

It will be very settled and clear right across the state.

Possibly a little bit of morning fog through eastern districts, maybe a bit of fog around the Gulf Coast as well, and then a sunny afternoon with mild daytime temperatures.

Go across the state border though, and it's quite a different story for New South Wales. Much, much windier weather down here. There will be some Damaging Wind Warnings in place for the mountain ranges.

The Southern and Central Tablelands, and even parts of the Northern Tablelands, will likely have some warnings.

If you're not up in those elevated areas, you probably won't see any weather warnings for strong winds, but it will be a gusty day no matter where you're located.

When it comes to rainfall, it should be primarily dry across the east coast, maybe 1 or 2 light showers.

For the most part though, we'll see showers on the western side of the ranges, with intermittent spells of wet weather for the western slopes and plains, the Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains, ACT as well.

Canberra getting some of those showers, and out through the Riverina and far south-west.

With the low-pressure region being near Tasmania, we certainly are seeing some gusty winds across Victoria on Wednesday. It will be windy pretty much statewide.

The strongest winds though, two areas: one, the north-eastern ranges. We're likely to have a Severe Weather Warning in place there.

Also some really strong winds across the south coast, so anticipate a blustery day around Wilsons Promontory, around the peninsula south of Melbourne, the Otway Coast and the south-west coast out towards Warrnambool and Portland.

And we may have Severe Weather Warnings for some or all of those regions as well. Other spots will see gusty conditions with passing showers.

Almost anyone in Victoria could see some rain tomorrow, but for most it will just be low rainfall totals.

We might see slightly heavier falls up in the mountains, but just 1 to 5 mm for lower-lying regions.

And interestingly enough, even though the low-pressure region is going to cross directly over Tasmania during Wednesday, we are avoiding the worst of the conditions down here.

It's a little bit of a calm in the centre of the storm, if you like. We will have much slacker wind, much lighter winds across the state.

It will be a cloudy day down here tomorrow, and there will be some spotty showers here and there across the state, but just low rainfall totals.

Not expecting much to accumulate in the gauges, 1 or 2 mm here and there.

It is possible we could see something heavier than that, though, across the north coast, all the way from Burnie across Launceston and then right up to the north-east.

So if you are on that northern side of the state, maybe some slightly heavier rain for you.

Wintry conditions for much of South Australia, a fresh, brisk south-westerly wind and fairly frequent showers moving through.

We could see some moderate accumulations as well. 2 to 10 mm is expected for many regions.

That could affect Adelaide as well, and potentially even slightly more than that around the Eyre Peninsula and Yorke Peninsula, where we could see 15 to 20 mm landing in some districts.

If you're north of Port Augusta across to Ceduna, it should be a dry day, but fairly cool maximum temperatures.

And a much more settled stretch of weather moving into Western Australia following on from that chaotic weekend. And that will last from Wednesday right through until next weekend.

So a pretty fine day for most of these areas. A cool morning and a mild afternoon. A high of 18 °C in Perth. There will be a continuation of some showers along the south coast.

Some gusty winds down there as well, particularly around the likes of Esperance. North of that though, conditions are looking pretty good.

And not a lot to say for northern Australia. Dry season weather up here. It is calm, settled and clear for the most part. Quite a range of temperatures.

We'll be seeing daily highs of about 20 °C in southern parts of the NT, with overnight lows of 6 °C or 7 °C.

But in the north, those daily highs are still 31 °C to 34 °C and the overnight lows are likely to be about 20 °C+.

And that's pretty much the story for Wednesday.

I'll be back again tomorrow with the next update for the following day, but if you'd like that early outlook, you can get it on the Bureau's website or app.

Thank you so much for sticking around and watching. Have a great day!
