Rain and storms continue in the west. Mostly settled elsewhere. G'day, David from the bureau here with a look at the weather across the country for tomorrow, Friday, August 28th. Let's take a look at the national map to start with.

And the main feature is this low pressure system down here in south-eastern WA that's been bringing showers, rain and storms across much of southern Western Australia this week. And tomorrow is the turn of the far south-east. Elsewhere in the country, a weak cold front clips Tasmania and southern Victoria during tomorrow, but the rest of the country will remain dry and settled under this large high pressure system.

Let's go around the grounds now, starting with Queensland, where it will be mild to warm and sunny across the vast majority of the state. Just 1 or 2 showers about the exposed parts of the east coast, the typical areas and temperatures generally ranging from the mid to high 20s in the south up to the low 30s in the north. That's a couple of degrees above the August average temperatures, but we are close to the end of the month, so we're about to click over into warmer September average temperatures.

Brisbane, mostly sunny, top of 25 °C. For New South Wales and the ACT, some morning fog and patchy frost inland, and then a mild and sunny day pretty much statewide. For Sydney, a sunny top of 20 °C.

For Canberra, mostly sunny, top of 17 °C. In Victoria, some morning fog and frost in the north and then sunny there in the south. Cloud increasing through the day. There's 1 or 2 bands of showers moving across from the west later in the day.

For Melbourne, a shower or two and a top of 17 °C. Showers in the afternoon and early evening, and then most likely clearing up for the footy after 7:30. For Tasmania, some showers, mainly in the early morning as that cold front crosses the state and mainly in the west, remaining pretty much dry in the east.

Hobart, a top of 15 °C. A cloudy day, 1 or 2 showers around in the early morning, but a dry day overall for South Australia. Mild and sunny across the eastern half of the state. Just a little bit of cloud and maybe a morning shower or two down around Mount Gambier.

And then in the far west, some showers and a few thunderstorms way out west. There is the risk of damaging winds with severe thunderstorms in the very far west of the state. For Adelaide, a sunny top of 21 °C.

For southern Western Australia, dry and partly cloudy through the very far south-west, including for Perth, Bunbury and Busselton. And then as you head further east, the wet weather kicks in around this low pressure system, which will be centred on the south-east of the state tomorrow. So parts of the Wheat Belt and then much of the Goldfields and the interior districts and the south-east coast can expect 5 mm to 15 mm of rain again tomorrow, with some locally higher totals in thunderstorms.

The risk of damaging winds in severe thunderstorms in the Far East as well. And that system, that rain-bearing system, has been quite generous. It's brought rain right across south-west Western Australia through this week from when it started out down in the South West Capes late Tuesday and then gradually spreading east, bringing welcome rain to many areas.

For Perth, mostly sunny, top of 21 °C tomorrow. And lastly, in the north. Warm to hot and sunny conditions is the order of the day again across the north. Darwin, a sunny top of 34 °C.
