G'day from the bureau with your national forecast for Thursday, the 8th of October, and there's a few areas of weather we're watching on Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms through parts of Queensland, with an inland trough. Dry and sunny in south-eastern Australia.

Showers and thunderstorms in the south-west of WA, moving into western parts of South Australia later in the day. Hot and humid with a few showers and storms also up through our tropical north.

While this high-pressure ridge in the Tasman Sea region across south-eastern and central Australia, will lead to dry and sunny weather elsewhere. Let's have a look at all of this in more detail.

Firstly, in Queensland, you can see here those hot and sunny conditions through western areas. But notice this trough line will bring showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf Coast down towards the Wide Bay and Capricornia areas, and probably more widespread around the Central Coast and Central Highlands and Coalfields, though staying dry in far southern and south-eastern parts of the state. Temperatures, will just get out of the way there. Temperatures in the low 20s, you can see here in south-eastern Queensland, getting to the mid to high 20s for many of our other coastal areas, and high 30s through our far north-west. Dry and mostly sunny in Brisbane on Thursday and 24 °C.

Moving down into New South Wales, and high pressure will really dominate the weather right across the state. So, apart from a few early morning coastal showers, it's going to be a fine and mostly sunny day for much of the state. Lots of sunshine in the west and just a few patchy clouds through eastern areas. Temperatures in the low 20s along our coastal fringe of New South Wales. Getting into the mid to high 20s through inland areas and even 30 °C in the far north and west. Sydney looking at a cloudy morning, but some of that should break by the end of the day and 20 °C.

A cold and frosty one to start the day in Canberra and then warming up to a lovely sunny 20 °C.

Moving down into Victoria. You can see temperatures again in the low to mid 20s in many areas, getting into the high 20s in the far north-west. Lots of sunshine state-wide. You can see that under the ridge, under the influence, I should say, of that high-pressure ridge.

Temperatures, as I mentioned, are getting to around the 30 °C mark along the Murray and low 20s in the south. Melbourne, looking at a lovely day after a cool start. Notice some of these cool minimums as well, so we could see the isolated fog and frost patch in those cold hollows, but otherwise a warm and sunny day, 23 °C with lots of sunshine in Melbourne.

Moving down into Tasmania. Another mild one there as well, thanks to northerly winds developing. Lots of sunshine across the state because of that. And that will lead to temperatures rising in the mid to high teens through northern and eastern areas. Getting into the low 20s in the west and south-east with lots of sunshine. Hobart looking at 22 °C and lots of sunshine.

Moving up into South Australia and a very warm day on the way, thanks to those northerly winds bringing temperatures in the high 20s in the south to low to mid 30s in the north. But then we'll be watching this trough line moving to western parts of the state later in the day, and then central areas Thursday night and then into Friday. And that's going to bring widespread rain and storms through western areas on Thursday night, and then probably spread across much of the state on Friday. But before that, looking like a warm and sunny one for much of SA on Thursday. Adelaide looking at a warm and sunny 28 °C.

Moving over into WA, and this cold front will move through during Wednesday night and Thursday morning with a band of rain, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds. And then it'll move across much of southern Western Australia I should say, during the day on Thursday, and we should even see light falls for many of our farmers and agricultural areas through the Wheatbelt as well. Generally 1 to 5 mm, more in the south, less in the north. Further north and inland areas won't see much with that. And then of course the Pilbara staying hot, dry and sunny. And then we'll see those storms develop around the SA border later in the day ahead of this front. Temperatures are warm ahead of it. You can see mid to high 20s for Eucla and Kalgoorlie, but much cooler behind it in the mid to high teens through south-western parts of WA. Perth looking at a showery start, easing during the day, and 19 °C.

Moving up into the NT. Hot and dry and sunny for many areas. Temperatures in the mid 30s through southern areas and then high 30s through northern areas. And notice all of these blue dots starting to pop up, particularly around the coastal areas, and that's because as we move deeper into the build-up when we're seeing those afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing, particularly along the sea breeze on a lot of our coastal areas through the Kimberley, Top End and Gulf Coast, but well inland that moisture isn't penetrating far enough for those showers and storms. Otherwise hot and humid for many areas. Darwin looking at 33 °C and partly cloudy skies.

So, there's a bit of weather around the country tomorrow and probably really ramping up Friday and into the weekend.
