Showers spread across the east coast while storms increase in the west. G'day from the bureau, David here with your weather forecast.

Across our country for tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd of September, and tomorrow is the spring equinox, the day when the day and night length are equal. And as the days get longer and the nights get shorter as we move into summer.

So let's take a look at the weather for tomorrow around the country. Looking at the national map. To start with, we can see this high pressure system that's going to move out into the Tasman Sea tomorrow. So really settled and fine conditions across Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia tomorrow. But what that high does is it drives easterly flow along the east coast. So we'll see cloud and showers increase right up the New South Wales and Queensland coast tomorrow. So plenty of showers around there and showers and storms as well through the west of the country. This trough system is going to bring wet weather to large parts of southern Western Australia, while the north remains mostly dry and sunny.

So let's take a look around the grounds now, starting with Queensland where you can see those coastal showers. They push inland during the daytime, so showers for much of the east coast really, and temperatures a couple of degrees cooler than what we've seen on Tuesday. Brisbane going for a shower or two and a top of 26 °C, Cairns going for a top of 28 °C.

And as you head west over the mountains, temperatures in the low to mid 30s there for New South Wales and the ACT. Again you can see those showers along the east coast. We'll also see a few thunderstorms about the New England Tablelands and parts of the North West Slopes as well during the afternoon, particularly around places like Armidale and Inverell. As you head further west, still got that hot air lingering, so temperatures reaching the mid 30s there in the far west and quite dry and sunny conditions generally west of the ranges. Apart from those afternoon storms in the North West Slopes there. So Sydney going for showers and top of 22 °C.

Canberra partly cloudy and a top of 21 °C.

A really fine and pleasant day across Victoria tomorrow. Another chilly start so some frost around parts of country Victoria, but then a sunny day statewide with mild temperatures, a top of 20 °C in Melbourne and reaching the mid 20s in the far north of Victoria.

Really similar story for Tasmania. Dry and sunny. A chilly start inland, but then a sunny day pretty much statewide again. Launceston at the top of 18 °C. Hobart partly cloudy and 19 °C.

For South Australia. Same story again. A chilly start through eastern districts and then a warm to hot day. So temperatures generally in the mid 20s through the southern half of the state and then pushing up into the low to mid 30s in the far west and the far north. Adelaide are mostly sunny, top of 25 °C and just a couple of showers reaching the far west coast later in the day.

In southern Western Australia. You can see those showers and storms there through the Goldfields and the south-eastern districts. There are severe thunderstorms are possible for some of those areas, including around Kalgoorlie, so stay tuned for that in the afternoon tomorrow. Showers and thunderstorms as well about parts of the South Coast, including around Albany and Walpole. For the west coast, including Perth. Maybe some morning fog around Perth and then a couple of showers moving in off the coast through the morning and perhaps the early afternoon, and then dry later in the day, with the top of 21 °C for Perth and much warmer as you head further north.

And for the north of the country to finish. Mostly dry and sunny, typically just a couple of showers around the Gulf Coast and parts of the coastal Top End. Darwin are mostly sunny. Top of 34 °C. Alice Springs on top of 33 °C.
