G'day from the bureau with your national weather forecast around the country for Wednesday, the 9th of September.

And we have a little bit of wet weather through parts of South Australia, WA and NT, it's a lot drier through much of eastern Australia, apart from a cold front moving through parts of Tasmania and Victoria. That's going to race up the New South Wales coast on Wednesday.

But really dry and cooler conditions on the Queensland coast, and those cooler air will continue to spread further northwards and westwards as well behind that cold front as we get later into the day.

But notice a very large and strong high pressure system across parts of the Great Australian Bight, and that really is going to start impacting the weather right around the country from Wednesday and well into the weekend. So let's have a look at all of that in more detail.

Firstly, in Queensland, we can see there's cooler conditions there for our coastal areas. Generally temperatures here in the low to mid 20s into the mid to high 20s as you get further north. While heat continuing across far north-western parts of Queensland with temperatures there up into the high 30s. While further south, you can see that cooler air starting to move down into inland areas, but lots of fine, dry and sunny weather right across inland Queensland with just a few coastal showers, particularly through central and northern parts, and just a possible shower in the south-east as well. Brisbane looking at a mild day with lots of sunshine, a few passing clouds and possible coastal shower, if that, and 25 °C.

Moving down into New South Wales. And a similar story. We'll be watching this front just sweep up the coast during the day on Wednesday. That's going to bring cold air and gusty winds as well with it, with just a few coastal showers through central and northern parts of the state, but staying dry and partly cloudy for much of inland New South Wales and staying warm in the north as well in the low to mid 20s there ahead of that cold front, with temperatures generally in the mid to high teens through southern parts of the state, coastal areas in the low to high teens in the south, around 20 °C before the change around the Central Coast. And then getting up into the low 20s before that change moves up there in the evening. Sydney looking at partly cloudy, 20 °C. Likely that max will be earlier and then cooling down as those colder, gusty winds move in during the afternoon. Canberra looking at a cloudy 16 °C.

Moving down into Victoria, and it's going to feel like winter for southern and eastern parts of Victoria, where temperatures in the low teens, showers and then a cold wind coming in from the south-west. So even these 12 and 13 °C will probably feel more like 9 or 10 during parts of the day, with those breezy winds a little bit milder through those northern areas, a bit more sunshine, lighter winds there, and mid to high teens through there as well. And pretty chilly overnight as well into the low single figures. Melbourne looking at a cold one with a gusty southerly wind and maybe just a few showers in the morning. Clearing during the afternoon.

Now down in Tasmania, it's going to feel just like winter, particularly through western and southern areas, as that cold front overnight tonight and into Wednesday morning brings a burst of much colder air. We're likely to see snowfall to around 500 m in the south and maybe along the west coast, getting up to around 600 m further north as well. Temperatures in the low teens pretty much right across the state. A tad warmer for our eastern areas. But apart from that, it's going to be really a cold and wintry one as well. Pretty showery in the south and west, mostly dry in the east. Hobart looking cold and showery. 13 °C and likely to see snow up the hills in the hilly areas as well.

South Australia again with that low up near the WA border, going to see widespread cloud and rain through western and northern areas. But eastern and southern areas are going to stay partly cloudy under that high pressure system, I should say. Temperatures in the mid to high teens through southern areas with cloudy periods and the odd sunny break, a little bit more cloud further north, windy up at Moomba, and then cooler and wetter through western areas as well. Out towards the Nullarbor and Coober Pedy. Adelaide looking at a partly cloudy 16 °C.

Moving over into WA, and that rain and storm activity continuing through eastern and desert areas of WA and some of that getting down to Eucla as well. But further west from Kalgoorlie, Esperance and across, we're going to see fine and partly cloudy through those areas as well with sunny breaks, temperatures fairly mild as well in the high teens to low 20s as well. Getting up into the high 20s, 30s up in the Pilbara. Perth looking at 23 °C and partly cloudy.

And finally across the NT. Showers and thunderstorms continuing through south-western parts of the NT again on Wednesday. A little bit cooler as well with that cloud cover and as cooler southerly winds moving in, but much warmer further north. Mid to high 30s once again through these northern areas, with temperatures up into the high 30s there, as you can see. And then even up in Darwin, another dry and sunny 33 °C and pretty similar conditions in the Kimberley as well.
