G'day from the bureau with your National Weather Forecast around the country for Tuesday, the 8th of September.
And it's all about this very large high pressure system across much of southern Australia, from WA all the way across into south-eastern Australia. It's going to be conditions fairly calm through there. We do have some coastal showers through parts of south-east Queensland and north-east New South Wales.
While we do have this very active low pressure system in eastern WA that's bringing rain and storms right around it, particularly through south-western parts of NT, western South Australia and much of south-eastern WA.
Otherwise fine, dry and clear conditions for much of the rest of the country, though we will see another cold front moving into parts of Tasmania and southern Victoria by Tuesday night into Wednesday.
But let's have a look at all of that in more detail. Firstly, in Queensland. We've got those coastal showers, as I mentioned, through south-eastern parts of Queensland, and a few of them might get up towards the central coast as well. Further north, though, very warm up across our tropical north in the mid to high 30s there and through north-western parts of Queensland as well. A sure sign that spring really is starting to heat up there. 31 °C in Birdsville. Mid to high 20s through the inland areas. Also a high 20 °C for many of our coastal areas as well, though with those showers in the south-east, a little bit cooler in south-east Queensland. Brisbane looking at 25 °C and a few showers.
Moving down into New South Wales, and those coastal showers will be pretty common right along the New South Wales coast and around Sydney, all the way up to the Queensland border there. Temperatures in the high teens into the low 20s. Low 20s across northern parts of the state and very sunny. Very sunny inland as well with temperatures in the mid to high teens. Sydney looking at a few showers early, clearing later on and 19 °C.
Canberra, 18 °C after a cool start with lots of sunshine.
Moving down into Victoria, we can see high pressure really dominating much of the state, so it could be a cold, frosty morning for some of our inland areas across northern parts of the state. But then a bright and sunny day right across the state before this cold front moves into the Bass Strait during Tuesday evening and may brush our southern coastal areas Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. But lots of sunshine ahead of it. Cool morning, but then a bright, sunny day and 16 °C in Melbourne.
Moving down into Tasmania, and we're going to start off you know fairly dry and partly cloudy across the state during Tuesday morning and then Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening, we'll see this cold front move in with showers, gusty winds and much cooler conditions as well. Those showers will generally be across the western and southern parts of Tasmania, staying fairly dry in northern and eastern areas. Temperatures in the mid to high teens across northern and eastern Tasmania into the low teens across western Tasmania with that front. Hobart looking at showers and 17 °C.
Moving up into South Australia, and it's going to be two different bits of weather depending on where you are. Eastern and southern parts are looking at a dry and partly cloudy day. Temperatures in the mid to high teens, although mid to high 20s across northern areas. Though over in the west, we're going to see widespread cloud, areas of rain and thunderstorms as well towards the WA border there. So pretty wet out there, Ceduna and Nullarbor definitely seeing some of that wet weather, though elsewhere staying fairly dry and cool to mild. Cold, frosty start possible in south-eastern parts of South Australia and then warming up to a bright and partly cloudy day for many. Temperatures in the high teens. As I mentioned, 18 °C at Adelaide and partly cloudy skies for Tuesday.
Moving over to WA, and it's the opposite of South Australia. All the rain and thunderstorm activity will be across eastern and south-eastern parts of the state, so staying wet from Eucla all the way through to Kalgoorlie. But as you get further westwards towards the west and south-western parts of WA, we're going to see fine, dry and partly cloudy conditions. A couple of showers, though, for our coastal areas in the south, but otherwise staying fairly dry north of there. Temperatures in the low 20s through parts of the south-west. High teens, mid to high teens under the cloud and rain in the south-east and staying in the mid to high 20s to near 30 °C up in the Pilbara. Perth, looking at a dry, partly cloudy day and 22 °C.
Now moving up into the NT. Now we could see some showers and isolated thunderstorms through south-western parts of the NT during much of Tuesday, particularly around Uluru and those areas. So it could be pretty wet as well with some heavy falls, so watch out for that if you're travelling through there. But it should stay away from the Alice Springs area, staying warm as well, temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s. Mid to high 30s through central and northern areas. Getting pretty hot now, 38 °C at Katherine. Also much of the Kimberley, little bit cooler, though, with southerly winds there but still getting into the high 30s through parts of Kununurra. Darwin though, staying fine, partly cloudy conditions, typical dry season weather and 33 °C.
