Showers and storms continue along the east coast and through WA. G'day from the bureau, David here. Let's take a look at the weather for tomorrow, Thursday the 24th of September.

And looking at the national map to start with, we can see this high pressure system we've been tracking in recent days that's out over the Tasman Sea now. So still pumping in that moisture in the easterly winds along the east coast. So showers and some storms continue through parts of New South Wales and Queensland tomorrow.

Wet weather as well continues for parts of eastern Western Australia, where this trough system is really slow-moving. So a multi-day shower and storm outbreak through the eastern half of southern Western Australia there. Fine weather to start with through Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia. Although, as you can see, we'll have some cloud and showers moving into some of those areas later on Thursday, but quite warm temperatures through that part of the country.

Let's take a look around the grounds now, starting with Queensland. We can see those showers coming ashore in the easterly winds, particularly tomorrow around the north tropical coast and also around the Wide Bay coast through Bundaberg and Gladstone. And then we can see as those showers move inland during the afternoon, that convection heats up and we should see a few rumbles of thunder through the southern parts from about Emerald down south through the higher terrain of southern Queensland. So getting a bit of a spring-like feel to it with a few rumbles of thunder around tomorrow. Further west, temperatures heat up into the low to mid 30s. For Brisbane, a shower or two and a top of 25 °C. For Cairns, a top of 28 °C.

For New South Wales and the ACT, you see those showers continue around north-eastern New South Wales. Similar story as the moisture moves inland during the afternoon. Should see a few thunderstorms around the New England Tablelands, potentially around the Blue Mountains and the Central Tablelands as well. For Sydney, a bit of cloud and some showers around in the morning, then clearing to a top of 24 °C. Further south of that along the coast, a really pleasant day with mild temperatures in the low to mid 20s and a nice north-easterly sea breeze. So quite summer-like there, and still quite warm to hot through western New South Wales with temperatures in the low 30s.

For Canberra, mostly sunny. Top of 25 °C.

For Victoria, northerly winds are increasing tomorrow, so that's bringing the temperatures right up to 6 to 10 degrees above average, pretty much right across Victoria. A little cooler along the Gippsland coast with a cooler sea breeze coming in there. High cloud increasing during the day across Victoria with a little bit of wet weather, perhaps for the south-west later, although nothing substantial there. Melbourne reaching a warm top of 26 °C and mostly sunny. Unfortunately, that warm weather is coming a couple of days too early for the Grand Final, which looks increasingly like it'll be quite cool and potentially quite wet as well on Saturday in Melbourne.

For Tasmania, it's been a really lovely couple of days down south, quite cool mornings, and that'll be the story again tomorrow. But then, warm day. So going for a top of 22 °C tomorrow in Hobart and also in Launceston. We'll see cloud increasing through Western Tasmania as well tomorrow. And then a couple of showers reaching the west coast later on Thursday.

For South Australia, again a very similar story to recent days. Warm to hot and dry generally again with some of that cloud and a few spotty showers about the southern agricultural areas later, but nothing substantial. Temperatures range from about 22 °C down south to 27 °C in Adelaide, and up as high as 35 or 36 °C for parts of the North-east Pastoral District.

For Western Australia, we can see the source of that weather, wet weather that’s reaching the eastern states later. This trough is just sitting there. It's moving a little further east tomorrow and taking the showers and thunderstorms with it into the eastern interior, but that system will then migrate back westward on Friday, so showers and thunderstorms will continue for a number of days, particularly for the Goldfields and the Kalgoorlie area further west in Western Australia. We could see some morning fog about parts of the south-west inland, and then mostly fine and a sunny day with a top of 22 °C in Perth.

And for the Northern Territory, lastly, not too much going on. Mostly sunny, just a couple of little showers around the coastal fringe. Darwin going for mostly sunny top of 34 °C, as is Alice Springs. Also going for 34 °C.
