Hello with your national weather forecast video as we take a look at what we're expecting for tomorrow. That's for Thursday, the 5th of March. First, let's jump straight into the synoptic map. And we do have a number of tropical lows over the north of Australia, but this one over the Coral Sea, will be the focus as it moves towards the north-eastern coast of Queensland. We do have a tropical cyclone watch current, so for more information on that weather system, we do have a dedicated severe weather update video.

Elsewhere, another tropical low bringing heavy rain to the Northern Territory, yet another off the coast of Western Australia, but that’s expected to remain offshore and move away from the mainland over the coming days. A few showers and thunderstorms across the eastern seaboard, and this high pressure system will become the dominant weather feature over the next few days across southern Australia. That will mean a return to sunshine across much of Victoria and Tasmania, and hot conditions will persist across western parts of Western Australia.

So now, a state by state look starting off with Queensland, and the focus will be this low pressure system in the Coral Sea. It is moving westwards and towards the coast, and we do have a tropical cyclone watch current for communities between Cooktown and Lucinda, that does include Cairns. So rain and wind really increasing as that system approaches, possibly even heavy rain down towards Townsville where we could see some renewed flooding across northern parts of Queensland as that system approaches. So keep across those latest updates if you are in the area. Away from that low, we will see easterly winds bring showers onto the south-east Queensland coast. We could see up to 10 mm of rain there, and showers and thunderstorms again across the far south-west of the state. Otherwise, a mostly dry day, warm across the southern interior. For Brisbane, partly cloudy with some showers and 29°C. Rain and wind increasing for Cairns, with a top of 30°C.

Now to New South Wales, patchy morning fog and cloud in the east. There is a lot of tropical humidity still sitting off the coast that will drive some showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon, possibly severe thunderstorms through western Sydney and out towards the Blue Mountains, with the risk of heavy rain there. For western New South Wales, sunny and dry, but there is still a little bit of flooding continuing across western parts of the state, so keep across those updates before you travel. For Sydney, a partly cloudy day. Chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon, most likely through the western suburbs with 29°C. Partly cloudy for Canberra, slight chance of a shower, with 30°C.

Now to Victoria, we'll see some patchy morning fog and cloud in the south of the state. As the sun rises we’ll gradually see that dissipating, and we are expecting a mostly sunny day across the state to follow. The exception, though, is the far north-east of the state. Some of the showers could spill down to areas east of about Wodonga, but with light winds, we are expecting mild temperatures. Melbourne, cloud clearing in the morning with a top of 26°C in the afternoon to follow, and sunny for Mildura with a top of 30°C.

Now down towards Tasmania, and north-westerly winds will push cloud and showers onto the west coast, but remaining mostly dry for central and eastern areas. Then, as we head into the evening, we'll see a cold front approaching from the south-west. Gusty winds and showers increase across the far south-west corner, but really not expecting any showers to get any further than that as that cold front slips towards the south as we head into Friday. So for Hobart we are expecting a warm day, sunny with a top of 26°C. Partly cloudy for Launceston with 24°C.

Now to South Australia, we'll see some patchy morning cloud in the south-east, but that will clear and we are expecting a sunny day to follow right across the state. That's all thanks to the high pressure system spinning over the Bight, but it is pushing southerly winds over the state, so temperatures slightly below average for this time of year. But it will be a mild day in the south and a little bit warmer in the north. Adelaide, sunny with a top of 27°C, and up into the low 30s across the north.

Now to Western Australia, and we'll see hot easterly winds pushing right across the west coast. Low-intensity heatwave conditions continue, getting up to severe intensity heatwave conditions across parts of the Gascoyne coast. The exception, though, will be along the south coast, a little bit cloudy and also breezy between Albany and over towards Esperance, but hot for the south-west and also Wheatbelt, and a few showers and thunderstorms across the Pilbara. But off the Pilbara, we will see that tropical low moving away, so it’ll be very windy off the Pilbara coast as we head in towards the weekend. Perth, though, warm, sunny with a top of 35°C.

Finally, to northern Australia, and this tropical low will move over the Northern Territory, bringing heavy rain to the Carpentaria District and also through parts of the Top End. For the south, though, mostly dry, just a few light showers as well, and thunderstorms clearing off the Kimberley as that low moves away from Western Australia. For Darwin, showers and thunderstorms with a top of 31°C.
