The weather is settling down nicely across southern Australia ahead of the weekend.

G'day I'm David from the Bureau, here with your national weather forecast video for tomorrow, Thursday August 13th. Let's take a look at the national map to start.

And you can see this big high pressure system is coming in to dominate the weather right across southern Australia, both tomorrow and for a number of days to come. Still westerly flow across south-eastern states, though. In the north, dry and sunny. Dry season conditions are dominating still.

Let's go around the grounds starting with Queensland, where there'll be a cold front moving off the south-east coast in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Just a little bit of patchy rain with that. Most of it will be offshore by the start of the day tomorrow. Conditions, temperatures a couple of degrees cooler than we've seen on Wednesday in that cool, dry air behind the cold front, but generally a mild and sunny day right across Queensland. Brisbane, a sunny top of 24 °C.

For New South Wales and the ACT, a cool, dry and sunny day for most of the state. Just a bit of cloud and a few showers around the south-west slopes. Quite a cold morning for the northern inland parts of the state there. Sydney, a sunny top of 20 °C. Canberra, maybe a little bit of fog around in the morning and then a top of 15 °C.

Victoria really stuck in this cool, showery westerly flow, so scattered showers on and south of the ranges throughout the day. Just a few showers reaching the northern plains, mainly during the afternoon. Melbourne, a possible shower and a top of 16 °C. Showers more likely in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne compared to the western suburbs, where it will be drier.

For Tasmania, it's a typical winter's day for the Apple Isle. This cold front will just clip the coast and bring plenty of showers on and west of the mountains, but as you head further east, things dry out as they often do at this time of year. Hobart, possible shower and a top of 16 °C.

For South Australia, westerly flow also for the coast and the agricultural districts, so some cloud and a few light showers around there. Nothing too significant. As you head further north, the showers dry out and the temperatures climb. Adelaide, a shower or two and a top of 17 °C.

For Western Australia, really settled, benign winter conditions under the ridge of high pressure. Quite a cold morning, particularly for the south-west inland, so plenty of fog and frost in the mix there to start the day. Perth, a chilly start with 4 °C, the minimum forecast there, and a top of 19 °C on the forecast, and a mostly sunny day.

Plenty of sunshine as well across the Top End. A little bit of fog around in the morning perhaps, and some smoke haze, there's still plenty of fire in the landscape across northern Australia. For Darwin, great conditions for cricket, with the Test match kicking off there tomorrow. A mostly sunny top of 31 °C.
