Hello with your weather wrap for Sunday the 19th of July.
Over the past 24 hours, further rain in Western Australia has brought a welcome boost, up to 25 mm was observed just to the north of Geraldton. And there was quite a contrast in the south-east of the country. While sunshine pushed maximum temperatures up into the high teens on Saturday through the Riverina, fog and low cloud stuck around south of the Murray. It reached just 9 °C at Swan Hill.
For the rest of Sunday, showers continue along the coasts of south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales, but they’ll be generally on an easing trend. It will be another dry and mild day for Victoria, including in Bendigo where the Australian Sheep and Wool Show is wrapping up, and out west, showers will start to break apart across the Gascoyne and the Goldfields.
Into Monday, showers will move into the Wide Bay and also Capricornia, but unfortunately, rain won't make it inland, where crops are looking for rain, and fallow fields are looking to build soil moisture. And in the evening, a cold front will push some rain onto the south coast of WA.
On Tuesday, showers in the west clear quickly, and the focus of rain moves towards Tasmania, ahead of that approaching cold front. And dry weather continues through the Eyre Peninsula, providing a break from recent soggy conditions.
This will be short lived, though, as cold air and showers sweep across south-east Australia on Wednesday with that cold front, generally looking up to about 5 mm or so. Showers will also stream onto the north-east tropical coast of Queensland, but these shouldn't disrupt sugarcane harvesting activities.
Cool mornings return to southern areas on Thursday, and frost across western parts of Victoria could impact already waterlogged crops. Elsewhere, showers clear quickly as another high-pressure system builds over the Bight.
And finally on Friday, a few showers will brush the south and also east coasts, but otherwise we are looking at a mostly dry lead-in to next weekend.
But that's it for today. Stay up to date through the week and we'll see you next time. Bye for now.
