G'day from the Bureau, here's the weather wrap for Sunday the 26th of July.
In the past few days rain has been pumping down in parts of Tasmania while being very scarce over the mainland. And that’s highlighted, again, by a distinct lack of cloud in the satellite pictures from the day as it remains calm and dry into Sunday morning.
As Sunday progresses, a weak cold front will glide through southern WA, but high pressure brings another dry day to other areas.
Monday begins another very wet week for western Tasmania. 30 mm to 70 mm of rain on top of what you got last week will keep those rivers flowing high, with possible flooding. Almost no rain elsewhere, but a watch point will be the potential for showers in the northern rivers of New South Wales.
On Tuesday a cold front brings showers to southern South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. Over the mainland, rainfall totals will be low, under 10 mm for the most part, except in the ranges. We do expect to see an uptick for rain around Queensland’s north tropical coast; the dry season is really struggling to get going there.
High pressure and dry weather re-establishes itself nearly nationwide on Wednesday with the showers easing in Tasmania and in north Queensland. It's cool across the country with many areas sitting a few degrees below their winter average.
The atmosphere will be struggling to generate any significant rain on Thursday. This high-pressure region is just too heavy and too slow moving. Even though it is cold enough, there won’t be any significant snow in the mountain ranges.
There’s no big change in weather pattern to round out the week, with the watchpoints for Friday being the potential for moderate showers across parts of the east coast and a weak cold front arriving in the south-west. With minimal rain and wind for many areas through the week, it’s good for fungicide spraying.
