Delivering improvements for emergency management

Final round of regular website updates for 2025
Issued: 18 December 2025

The Bureau of Meteorology has today released the latest round of updates to the new website www.bom.gov.au.

This release features refining of the rain radar, weather map and the warnings text as well as the addition of fire behaviour indices to fire weather district forecast tables.

Decision Support Services General Manager, Dr Chantal Donnelly says today's update is part of an ongoing and regular program to ensure that the website meets community, business and emergency management needs.

"This release includes more refinements to warnings and other public safety information,” she said.

"Fire danger ratings tables on state and territory pages now include the forecast fire behaviour index (FBI).

“Also as part of this update, Tropical Cyclone Advice and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings include the priority broadcast statement and Standard Emergency Warning Signal (SEWS) text for our media and emergency management partners.

“In response to feedback about the rain radar, we have zoomed in the weather map to mainland Australia, made improvements to the rain radar's image processing time and updated the rain radar time slider to display the day, date and time of the observation," Dr Donnelly said.

The Bureau continues to respond to feedback, implement fixes and performance improvements, and release new features.
