Delivering improvements
We have released the latest round of updates to our website bom.gov.au.
Based on your feedback, we have:
- added today's forecast to the 7-day tab
- added a new radar coverage layer to the rain radar
- enabled postcode, state, territory and district searches.
Today's update follows changes last year to make the rain radar and weather map more usable, fire danger information more comprehensive and warnings easier to understand.
Thank you for all your website feedback. Please keep telling us what you like, and what improvements you're keen to see.
Search experience
You can now search by:
- postcode
- district, state and territory.
Rain radar and weather map
You can now use:
- a new map layer to show areas covered by radar
- mouse controls on laptop and desktop to zoom the map. This was only available in full-screen mode previously.
The new radar coverage layer helps you understand which areas have no radar coverage, and where radar images might be less reliable. Learn more about weather radar coverage in Australia.
You can turn the radar coverage layer on in map settings. Learn how to customise your map.
Forecasts and warnings
Based on your feedback, we have:
- added today's forecast to the 7 days tab
- changed days and dates in the 7-day forecast to the location time zone, not the user's time zone
- added reissue details to clearly identify updated flood watches and warnings.
Today's forecast information updates throughout the day in local time:
- From midnight to 9 am you can see today's predicted minimum and maximum temperatures.
- From 9 am to 6 pm you can see today's predicted maximum temperature.
- After 6 pm today's forecast won't display.
The coastal forecast section also displays today's wind, seas, weather and tides forecast.
Coming soon
We'll be adding more locations to the towns and cities weather map layer.
More location labels on the weather map is something we get many requests for every week. We're reviewing requests and checking them against the current map, legacy maps and population data.
We want to create a map layer with good coverage and well-known reference points. It also needs to be easy to read and select locations, including on mobile phones.
We'll also be adding alpine weather. We're creating a one-stop shop for weather information for snow resorts, towns and remote areas in our alpine regions.
