G’day from the Bureau with your National Weather Forecast around the country for Friday, the 24th of April.

That dominant high-pressure system continues to bring warm, dry and sunny weather to much of central and south-eastern Australia, while onshore flow is bringing showers to much of the New South Wales coast and almost all of the Queensland coast. Most of those showers in Queensland will remain coastal, although in New South Wales they will extend a little further inland, with a similar pattern in south-east Queensland. Elsewhere, conditions remain dry, warm and sunny across Tasmania, Victoria, inland New South Wales, inland Queensland, South Australia, the Northern Territory and much of Western Australia, as another high-pressure system begins moving into WA.

In Queensland, onshore winds are bringing showers, particularly across south-east Queensland and along much of the coastline. These showers will be more widespread along the North Tropical Coast and in the far south-east. Most rainfall will remain near the coast, with inland areas staying dry, warm and sunny. Temperatures will be in the mid to high 20s along the coast and the high 20s to low 30s inland. Brisbane is expecting showers and a top of 26 °C.

In New South Wales, inland areas will see another warm, dry and sunny day under the high-pressure system. Coastal areas, particularly from Newcastle northwards, will see showers, with the potential for these to extend inland towards the ranges. Sydney and Wollongong may see an isolated shower, while more consistent showers are expected across the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers. Further south and inland, conditions remain dry. Sydney is heading for 24 °C with a couple of showers, while Canberra will be partly cloudy with a top of 22 °C after a chilly start.

Victoria will see another dry and sunny day, continuing the recent run of settled weather. Temperatures will reach the mid to high 20s across most of the state, with slightly cooler conditions in the north-east and along the coast. Melbourne is expecting 25 °C with partly cloudy skies.

Tasmania will also remain under the influence of the high, bringing warm and generally settled conditions. Temperatures will reach the mid to high 20s in parts of the east and south-east, while the north coast will be a little cooler due to onshore winds. Western areas will remain mild with partly cloudy skies. Hobart is heading for a warm 26 °C.

South Australia continues with warm, dry and sunny conditions under the slow-moving high-pressure system. Temperatures will reach the high 20s to around 30 °C across much of the state, with widespread sunshine. Adelaide is expecting a partly cloudy day with a top of 27 °C.

In Western Australia, a weak trough may bring a few showers to far eastern parts of the state and the far south-west coast, along with the chance of isolated showers or storms through the Goldfields. Elsewhere, conditions will remain warm, mostly dry and partly cloudy, with temperatures in the low to mid 30s in the north and low 20s in the south-west. Perth is expecting partly cloudy conditions and a top of 21 °C.

Across the tropical north, the dry season is beginning to take hold, with mostly dry conditions from Cape York across the Gulf, the Top End and into the Kimberley. Easterly winds may bring a few isolated showers to eastern parts of the Top End, but most areas will remain dry, warm and sunny. Darwin is heading for 34 °C with partly cloudy skies.

Overall, there is not a great deal of active weather across the country. With Anzac Day coming up on Saturday, you can find the latest forecasts and warnings, including for Dawn Services, via our website and app. I’ll be back tomorrow with your weekend forecast.
