Hello, Ilana from the Bureau with your national weather forecast for tomorrow, Thursday, the 9th of April. Let's start by taking a look across the country where we'll see our main weather system of interest tomorrow is going to be in the south, where we'll see a cold front and pre-frontal trough sweep across the south-eastern states.

This weather system is going to bring an increase in showers, thunderstorms, and windy conditions to the south of the country. However, through the north, we'll see a continuation of this warm and dry air really dominating through the interior, but we will still see a few showers and thunderstorms up in the north-west Top End.

We are of course still monitoring Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila. Now through tomorrow, Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila will continue its south-westwards trajectory. However, it will remain well offshore of Australia into Thursday and for the next few days.

So let's now take a look state-by-state, starting in Queensland. In Queensland, we are looking at quite a dry and settled day. We'll see some patches of fog about the east. And then we'll also see some isolated showers developing around Mackay, the Whitsundays, and up towards the north tropical coast there as well. Elsewhere across the state, it's really looking hot and dry, particularly through the interior, through the central and southern interior, where temperatures are well above average for this time of year.

In Brisbane, we're looking at a mostly sunny day and a top of 30 degrees.

Now, into New South Wales, where we'll see quite a variety of weather throughout Thursday. So through southern parts of New South Wales, we'll see an increase in cloud, showers, and thunderstorms. And we'll also see winds start to increase.

Now northwesterly winds will particularly start to increase about the alpine areas later into the evening period. Through central and northern parts of New South Wales, however, it is looking like quite a clear and dry day. That includes for Sydney, which is looking warm and mostly sunny with a top of 29. Canberra, however, will see a couple of those showers and we're looking at a top of 26.

Now into Victoria, where we're seeing showers and thunderstorms really extending across much of the state throughout Thursday. We could see some gusty thunderstorms and even outside of showers and storms, we are looking at quite a windy day.

Now that will be in particular about the north-east alpine areas of Victoria, where we're likely to see some damaging wind gusts developing. For Melbourne, it will be a windy day, we'll see some showers and even possibly a storm or two, and we're looking at a top of 26.

Now into Tasmania, where we'll see showers starting to develop in the north-west and then extending south and eastwards throughout the day. We may even see a storm or two developing about the north-east or Furneaux islands. For Hobart, we'll see a top of 22 and a possible late shower.

Into South Australia now, where we'll continue to see cloud, showers, and storms through the agricultural areas and southern parts of the pastoral districts as well. However, inland it will remain hot and dry. A little bit cooler further south, including for Adelaide, where we'll see a top of 23 and possibly a few showers.

Now into Western Australia, where we see a continued risk of showers and gusty storms through from central parts all the way down, extending into the Eucla. Now it will be dry across much of the state, but we could still see a few isolated showers in the far south through the Albany and Esperance regions.

However, those showers won't extend as far north as Perth, which is looking at a mild day and a top of 24.

Up in the Northern Territory, we're seeing some dry air start to move in from the south-east, which means we're seeing a contraction of area of showers and thunderstorms over the next few days. Tomorrow, though, we still will see some showers and storms about the Top End, particularly about the north-west Top End.

So for Darwin, a top of 32, some showers and still the possibility of a storm. Different though for Alice. In central Australia, it will be hot and dry. So for Alice, sunny and a top of 32.

That's all for our national weather forecast. As always, if you'd like some more information for your location, please visit us at the Bureau's website, app, or social media. Thanks so much for watching and we'll see you next time.
