About Water Data Online

 

Water Data Online provides free access to nationally consistent current and historical water information that is collected by the Bureau of Meteorology under the Water Regulations (2008). It allows you to view and download standardised data and reports.

Time series data collected from approximately 6000 measurement stations across Australia is currently available on Water Data Online. The parameters available are:

• Watercourse Level (Category 1a)
• Watercourse Discharge (Category 1b)
• Storage Level (Category 3a)
• Storage Volume (Category 3b)
• Rainfall (Category 4a)
• Electrical Conductivity @ 25C (Category 9a)
• Turbidity (Category 9d)
• pH (Category 9g)
• Water Temperature (Category 9h)

Originally, this data was mainly supplied by lead water agencies, over time we have added data from more organisations. We will continue to expand the number of water information categories and water monitoring stations presented. For more information refer to the Water Data Online information sheet.

1.1.0	29/04/2015	SOS2 web services were made made available for the first time. The Flood frequency analysis report was changed to ensure that data from the full period of record is used. The user interface for the Monthly statistical analysis and Yearly statistical analysis reports was improved, and some bug fixes were implemented. The Monthly statistical analysis report was renamed Monthly mean statistical analysis to better reflect the data shown.
1.2.0	23/07/2015	A new Ratings and Gaugings report was made available for Watercourse Discharge and Watercourse Level parameters.
1.3.0	01/09/2016	The data source for Water Data Online was changed from the AWRIS1 database to the AWRIS2 data warehouse. AWRIS2 was loaded from new supplies of historic data provided by data owners during 2015-16. These data supplies usually covered the full period of record.
1.4.0	05/06/2017	Storage level and volume reports and downloads were added, including a download of the time series shown on the Water Information Dashboard. Watercourse Discharge 9am - 9am daily mean time series were made available for download. A function was added to download the station list shown on the main window's Table tab. Rating and Gauging reports were improved: time was added to the Gauging table, quality F data was excluded. Daily, Monthly and Yearly summary reports were fixed to show zero values. A WDTF download issue was fixed. The interface for iPad Safari users was improved.
1.5.0	19/04/2018	Electrical conductivity @ 25C, Turbidity, pH and Water temperature reports and downloads were added.
1.5.1	13/09/2018	Flood frequency analysis report was improved: user can now select either 'Pearson Log3' or 'GEV L-moments' distribution.
1.6.0	30/06/2021	Rainfall reports and downloads were added. Time zone issue for gaugings fixed.
