Thursday, 2 August 2007 - Monthly Climate Summary for Northern Territory - Product code IDCKGC12R0
Cool and dry conditions prevailed over most of the Territory during July, following on from a cold and wet June. These dry conditions and cooler temperatures are largely associated with cooler, drier air being transported northwards from southern parts.
Jump to: Extremes Records Summaries Notes the top
Very little rainfall was recorded across the Territory during July, although this is not unusual in what is typically a dry month. Rainfall generally remained close to average over the northern half, whilst the southern half experienced below average rainfall.
Maximum temperatures were near to, or slightly below, average across much of the Territory, the only exception being the Alice Springs District, which recorded temperatures between 1 and 3°C above average. Yulara recorded its highest July temperature with 30.1°C on the 31st, whilst Gove and Alyangula also broke maximum temperature records with cooler than average day-time temperatures.
Some sites had their highest July temperature on record.
Some sites had their lowest July mean daily maximum temperature on record.
Minimum temperatures of between 1 and 4°C below average prevailed across much of the Territory, while temperatures in the far south remained close to normal. Several minimum temperature records were broken.
Some sites had their lowest July temperature on record.
Some sites had their lowest July mean daily minimum temperature on record.

This statement has been prepared based on information available at 5pm on Thursday 2 August 2007. Some checks have been made on the data, but it is possible that results will change as new information becomes available.
The Rank indicates how rainfall this time compares with the climate record for the site,
based on the
decile ranking
(very low rainfall is in decile 1, low in decile 2 or 3,
normal in decile 4 to 7, high in decile 8 or 9
and very high is in decile 10).
The Fraction of normal shows how much rain has fallen this time as a
percentage of the long-term mean.
