Queensland in September 2007

Summary

September generally produced average overnight and day time temperatures.  Rainfall along the coastal and Gulf districts during the month resulted in some very much above average figures.

Rainfall

Parts of the Central Coast, Capricornia and Wide Bay districts received above average rainfall for September. Pockets of the Gulf country also received very much above average falls, while the remainder of the state recorded average to below average rainfall.

The Far Southwest district did not receive any rainfall during the month.

Moderate falls around the Capricornia, Wide Bay and northern Sunshine Coast areas at the beginning of the month produced some high daily and monthly rainfall figures.

The highest monthly rainfall was 264.0 mm at Noosa Heads Alert, followed by 258.0 mm at Maroochydore Depot Alert and then 256.0 mm at Yandina Creek Alert.

Some sites had their highest total September rainfall on record.

September's highest daily rainfall was 173.0 mm at The Gap TM, then 155.0 mm at Yaamba on the 6th, and then 144.8 mm at Melrose on the 5th.

Brisbane received 32.4 mm of rainfall in September, where the long term average is 45.7 mm.

Temperature

Overall, much of the state experienced average overnight and day time temperatures for September.

Heavy cloud cover over the state at the beginning of the month kept maximum temperatures below average.

The hottest day was 40.7°C at Birdsville Airport on the 25th,  while the coldest day was 10.4°C at Applethorpe on the 5th.

Some sites had their coldest September day (lowest maximum temperature) on record.

The coldest night was 0.5°C on the 21st at Stanthorpe, while the warmest night was 25.2°C at Horn Island on the 20th.

Brisbane's mean maximum temperature was 25.5°C and the mean minimum temperature was 13.8°C for September.
