A wet and warm September 2008

Most of the state received average rainfall for September. Parts of the central and western districts were very much above the average, with some places getting their highest monthly rainfall on record. 

Area averaged across the state, and based on figures since 1950:
- Maximum (daytime) temperatures were warmer than the long term average, and
- Minimum (overnight) temperatures were the 5th warmest on record.

Rainfall

The first week of September received the bulk of the rainfall for the month, with many places reaching or exceeding their long term average within a few days.

Moderate falls were recorded over the central interior around the 3th and 4th, with the rain band moving into the south east of the state in the following days. This also brought moderate to heavy falls to the southeast corner.

A range of sites had their highest September daily rainfall on record.  Other sites had their highest total September rainfall on record.

The wettest overall was 320.0  mm at Bellenden Ker Top Station, with the wettest single day of 131.0 mm recorded at Glengaven on the 5th.

Brisbane received 55.6 mm of rainfall, where the long term average for September is 45.7 mm.

Temperature

Maximum temperatures were mostly within average or slightly above over most of the state, with the far west and far north Peninsula recording about 2°C above the usual September maximum. Area averaged across the state the daytime temperatures were warmer than the long term maximum. 

The hottest day was 39.2°C at Boulia Airport on the 20th. In contrast, some sites had their coldest September day (lowest maximum temperature) on record.

Minimum temperatures were mostly above average for the month, with some areas across the central interior and southern districts about 3 - 4°C above the long term averages. Area averaged across the state the overnight temperatures were the 5th warmest on record.

Some sites had their warmest September night (highest daily minimum temperature) on record. Also some sites had their highest September mean daily minimum temperature on record.

Brisbane recorded a mean maximum temperature of 24.6°C (+0.6 °C above the long term average) and a mean minimum temperature of 14.5°C (+1.6°C above the long term average).
