Details

Seasonal rainfall across the metropolitan area was mixed, with Brisbane Aero, Brisbane city, Amberley and Archerfield recording below average for the season, while Redcliffe and Logan City recorded above average falls. 

The highest daily totals for Redcliffe, Brisbane Aero and Logan City on the 13th February resulted from widespread rainfall over the southeast due to a weak low pressure system located near Cape Moreton, which tracked southeast. Brisbane recorded its highest daily rainfal on the 14th February with 36.8mm.

Thunderstorm activity across the metropolitan area caused some locally heavy rainfall for some stations, with the 7th December resulting in the highest daily rainfall for the season at Archerfield with 34.2mm and Amberley with 73.4mm.

Rainfall

The wettest overall was 440.4 mm at Logan City Water Treatment, followed by 363.2 mm at Redcliffe, followed by 282.4 mm at Amberley AMO.

The driest overall was 253.2 mm at Archerfield Airport, followed by 270.6 mm at Brisbane Aero, followed by 271.8 mm at Brisbane.

The wettest single day 79.6 mm at Redcliffe on 13 Feb 2009, followed by 63.6 mm at Brisbane Aero on 13 Feb 2009, followed by 51.1 mm at Logan City Water Treatment on 13 Feb 2009.

Temperature

Seasonal tempeatures were within a degree of the long term average for the metropolitan area, both for the maximum and minimum. Some individual days were very warm, with Amberley recording the highest daily maximum of 38.6 °C on the 31 December 2009.

Maximum temperature

The hottest day was 38.6 °C at Amberley AMO on 31 Dec 2008, followed by 38.4 °C at Amberley AMO on 30 Dec 2008, followed by 38.0 °C at Amberley AMO on 9 Feb 2009.

The warmest days on average were 31.1 °C at Amberley AMO, followed by 30.3 °C at Archerfield Airport, followed by 30.1 °C at Brisbane.

The coolest days on average were 28.9 °C at Brisbane Aero, followed by 28.9 °C at Redcliffe, followed by 29.7 °C at Logan City Water Treatment, followed by 30.1 °C at Brisbane.

The coldest day was 22.6 °C at Logan City Water Treatment on 13 Feb 2009, followed by 23.1 °C at Archerfield Airport on 13 Feb 2009, followed by 23.5 °C at Brisbane on 13 Feb 2009.

Minimum temperature

The coldest night was 12.8 °C at Amberley AMO on 1 Dec 2008, followed by 13.0 °C at Amberley AMO on 23 Dec 2008, followed by 13.5 °C at Amberley AMO on 15 Dec 2008.

The coolest nights on average were 19.1 °C at Amberley AMO, followed by 20.1 °C at Archerfield Airport, followed by 20.8 °C at Logan City Water Treatment.

The warmest nights on average were 21.6 °C at Redcliffe, followed by 21.2 °C at Brisbane, followed by 20.9 °C at Brisbane Aero.

The warmest night was 25.5 °C at Logan City Water Treatment on 25 Jan 2009, followed by 25.2 °C at Brisbane on 25 Jan 2009, followed by 25.0 °C at Brisbane on 22 Jan 2009.
