Find your location

Zoom in or out and move around the map

Changing your view within MetEye's main map is simple.

If there is not enough detail on the map area for your needs or if you want to look at another place, you can zoom in or out on the map, pan left, right, up or down or go straight to a location, by one (or more) of these methods:

  1. If you want to zoom directly to your current location, press the Find me button. You must then agree to share your location (not available in Internet Explorer 8.0 or below);

  2. or type a location or postcode or coordinates in the entry box at the top (see further detail below if needed) and press Locate;
  3. or use the mouse wheel, or double click while positioned over the map;
  4. or zoom and move with the controls on the map (+, - or arrows);
    • To zoom in, click [+].
    • To zoom out, click [-].

    Tip: You can use the shift key and draw a box with the mouse to zoom to a particular area of interest.

    Note: If you zoom in too far you can return to the full map extent by clicking on the "Zoom to Australia" button above the zoom in/out buttons.

For options i and ii, MetEye will zoom directly to the chosen location and centre the map on that location. A tabular forecast will pop up in the window automatically, which shows the official Bureau of Meteorology forecast for that location. The temperature and rainfall forecast information is shown (out to 7 days) immediately.

For wind direction, wind speed and temperature, click on the Detail buttons for each day, which will appear below.

Tip: You can click-hold-drag the mouse in any direction to move around the map.

Tip: You may also want to add extra map layers, found at the bottom of the screen, to better orient yourself and to help you locate your place of interest. See Section 4c for instructions.

Note: You are able to save one or more favourite locations for the next time you visit. Your personalised location markers are saved on your local computer within a specific browser as a "browser cookie". The ability to save a local cookie is dependent on your browser settings.
