Coastal Waters Forecast for Victoria
West Coast

Issued at 4:50 pm EDT on Saturday 21 November 2009
for the period until midnight EDT Wednesday 25 November 2009.

Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Wilsons Promontory.

Weather Situation

A low pressure system is expected to approach the northwest of Victoria later Saturday then pass over the State early Sunday to reach the southern Tasman Sea by Sunday afternoon. A high pressure ridge will extend over Victoria later Sunday associated with a high that will move over the Bight on Monday and then move across the State on Tuesday.

Forecast for Saturday until midnight

Winds: Southeast to southwesterly 5 to 10 knots. Seas: Below 1 metre. Swell: Southwesterly 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Sunday

Winds: South to southwesterly 5 to 15 knots, reaching 20 knots at times, increasing to 15 to 25 knots around dawn then tending west to southwesterly 20 to 30 knots during the morning. Seas: Below 1 metre increasing to 1 to 2 metres around dawn then increasing to 3 metres during the morning. Swell: Southwesterly about 2 metres.

Forecast for Monday

Winds: Westerly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots by early evening then decreasing to 15 to 20 knots later in the evening. Seas: Up to 4 metres decreasing to 3 metres around midday then decreasing to 2 metres later in the evening. Swell: Southwesterly 2 to 3 metres increasing to 3 to 4 metres in the afternoon and evening.

Forecast for Tuesday

Winds: Westerly 15 to 25 knots decreasing to 15 to 20 knots during the evening. Seas: Up to 3 metres decreasing to 2 metres during the evening. Swell: Southwesterly 3 to 4 metres decreasing below 2 to 3 metres from midday.
