Coastal Waters Forecast for Victoria
Central Gippsland Coast

for the period until midnight EDT Wednesday 25 November 2009.

Warning Summary at issue time

Gale warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and 60nm east of Gabo Island.

Weather Situation

A low pressure system tracking across Victoria will move rapidly southeastwards to lie near Wilsons Promontory about 0800 Sunday then east of Tasmania by 1500 Sunday and well southeast of Tasmania by Monday morning. A high pressure ridge will extend over Victoria on Monday while a weak cold front crosses Tasmania. A high pressure system will move across Victoria on Tuesday to eventually reach the Tasman Sea later on Wednesday.

Forecast for Sunday until midnight

Winds: Variable to 15 knots tending northwesterly and increasing to 20 to 30 knots during the morning then tending west to southwesterly 25 to 35 knots this afternoon. Seas: Near 1 metre at first, rising 3 to 5 metres this afternoon. Swell: Southeasterly 1.5 metres. Swell: Southwesterly about 1 metre.

Forecast for Monday

Winds: Westerly 20 to 30 knots. Seas: Up to 4 metres. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Southeasterly about 1.5 metres decreasing to 0.5 metres from midday.

Forecast for Tuesday

Winds: Westerly 15 to 25 knots decreasing to 15 to 20 knots during the morning then increasing to 15 to 25 knots during the afternoon then decreasing to 10 to 20 knots during the evening. Seas: Up to 3 metres. Swell: Westerly 2 metres.
