A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will continue to extend a ridge over Tasmania until a trough moves across the state later today. This trough will linger off the northeast coast on Thursday until a cold front crosses the state early Saturday, followed by another trough in the evening.

- Northwest to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots in the middle of the day.

- East to northeasterly around 1 metre.

- Partly cloudy. The chance of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon and evening.
Friday 9 January
- Winds
- Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning east to northeasterly below 10 knots during the morning then tending north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the evening.

- Below 1 metre.
- Swell
- East to northeasterly around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres about Banks Strait during the afternoon or evening.
