10.3 Recharge from landscape

Supporting Information

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (9,686 ML) represents the volume of groundwater assumed to recharge the sedimentary and fractured rock aquifers in the region during the 2010–11 year.

Quantification Approach

Data Source

Western Australian Department of Water: Water Resource Licensing database and the Water Information database.

Provided by

Western Australian Department of Water.

The volume of groundwater recharge is estimated to be equal to the extraction from groundwater in the region
during the 2010–11 year.

Assumptions, Limitations, Caveats and Approximations

The estimate assumes that the annual extraction from groundwater in the region is sustainable.

An expansion of the monitoring bore network, and improved understanding of aquifer extent, aquifer properties and groundwater processes are required to adequately quantify the flow of groundwater in the region.

Uncertainty Information

Derived from estimated data. The uncertainty estimate was not quantified.

Comparative year
