14.1 Adjustment and forfeiture of groundwater allocation

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (4,136 ML) represents the allocation forfeited for groundwater entitlements in the Ord region for the 2011 Account. Forfeiture here occurs because the dates of the 'water year' of each allocation do not match the dates of the 2011 Account year.

The water supply licences are divided into licence entitlement purposes. The total volume of forfeited/adjusted allocation for each groundwater licence purpose for the 2010–11 year is given in the table below.

Any unused allocation cannot be carried over to a subsequent licence year. For each licensee, the portion of an entitlement that has not been abstracted by the end of its reporting period is forfeited.

The forfeiture is calculated as the total annual allocation for each licence minus total allocation diversion (see Line item 18.11). Entitlements that are terminated during the 2010–11 year are also considered to be forfeitures.

Forfeiture is calculated based on available extraction data. Where the extraction data are estimated, the forfeiture is subject to the same assumptions and limitations of the extraction data. Refer to Line item 18.11 Groundwater allocation extraction.

The uncertainty estimate was not quantified.
