South East Queensland
17.7 Non-allocated diversions to users

Supporting Information

This line item includes:

  • water licence diversions for stock and domestic use
  • unsupplemented surface water licence/allocation diversions
  • riparian entitlement diversions within water supply schemes (WSSs).

The stock and domestic, and riparian entitlement diversions in the South East Queensland (SEQ) region can be seen in the following table.

Riparian entitlement diversions were not available for Central Brisbane River, Cressbrook Creek and Pine Valleys WSSs. These represent unsupplemented entitlement diversions within the supplemented WSSs.

In the 2010–11 year metered unsupplemented water diversions in water management areas and non-water management areas (taken under unsupplemented entitlements) could not be obtained at the time of printing. This component has been reported as 0 ML in the 2011 Account.

Quantification Approach

Data Source

Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) Water Management System database.

Provided by

DERM.

Method

An estimate has been made of the water licences for stock and domestic use of water within the SEQ region. The total number of properties with water licences for stock and domestic use was multiplied by an assumed diversion rate of 2 ML per property to obtain an estimate of the volume abstracted.

Riparian entitlement diversions were obtained from interim resource operation licence (IROL) holders by DERM.

Assumptions, Limitations, Caveats and Approximations

The assumed diversion rate of 2 ML per property may not be appropriate for all users and adds uncertainty to the estimated value.

The lack of data for unsupplemented diversions has resulted in an underestimation of around 2,000 ML in the 2011 account compared to 2010 Account.

Uncertainty Information

Derived from estimated data. The uncertainty estimate was not quantified.

Comparative year

This line item corresponds to line item 14.6.1 Diversion of unregulated flows – S&D water access entitlement and 14.6.5.6 Diversion of unregulated flows – other lumped holders reported in the 2010 Account. There was a prior period error in the 2010 Account.

The following table compares the value at 30 June 2010 reported in the 2011 Account with the corresponding value reported in the 2010 Account.
