Adelaide
17.11 Entitled diversion of allocated surface water to users
Supporting information
The volume of water diverted under water licences (water access entitlements) from the surface water (watercourses) in the Adelaide region in the 2011–12 year was 1,116 ML:
- North Para River and tributaries, included in the Barossa Prescribed Water Resources Area (PWRA): 1,116 ML
- Little Para River Prescribed Watercourse (PWC): no data available as the watercourse was not metered.
For further information on surface water (watercourse) licences and allocations in the Adelaide region, see line item 5.1 Surface water allocation remaining.
Quantification approach
Data source
South Australian Department of Environment Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR): Water Information and Licence Management Administration (WILMA) database.
Provided by
South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR).
Method
Metered watercourse diversions were obtained from the WILMA licensing database for the Barossa PWRA. Non–metered diversions were estimated by DEWNR.
The non-metered diversions in the Barossa PWRA were calculated by comparing meter readings with allocations to determine the average level of water taken. The average was applied to the allocations where meter readings were not available and used to determine the usage amount.
Non-metered water allocated for the purpose of stock and domestic was estimated at 100% usage of the allocation.
Source | Volume (ML) |
Metered diversions | 1085 |
Correction for unmetered diversion | 31 |
Total | 1,116 |
Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
The assumptions made to calculate non-metered diversions (see Method) were validated by DEWNR water-licensing staff members.
