17.4 Leakage to landscape
The volume could not be quantified in a way that is complete, neutral and free from material error; however, leakage from surface water to landscape is a significant process in the Adelaide region.
It is considered that significant volumes of surface water contribute to the landscape water store within the Adelaide region. An indicator of leakage to landscape from surface water is the existence of vegetation communities in this region on the fringes of watercourses and associated wetlands; this leakage maintains a higher moisture regime compared to the regime in the surrounding landscape.
While leakage from surface water to landscape is an important process, insufficient information was available to estimate the magnitude of the impact to the surface water balance.
