33.2 Groundwater access entitlement for non–allocated extractions
Supporting information
A volume was not presented for groundwater access entitlements, as this volume could not be quantified in a way that is complete, neutral and free from material error.
Groundwater access entitlements for direct extraction represent entitlements in unincorporated areas outside of groundwater management units. Unincorporated areas have not been evaluated from a groundwater resource perspective and bores in these areas are not metered.
There were 71,362 ML of entitlements in unincorporated areas in the southern half of Victoria during the 2011–12 year, with a metered usage of 9,485 ML. The Melbourne region is only a small part of this area and the volume of extraction is not thought to be significant.
Groundwater entitlements within groundwater management units are included under 33.3 Groundwater access entitlement for allocation extraction.
