Supporting information
During the 2011–12 year the volume of River Murray water claimed by Barossa Infrastructure Limited (BIL) (see line item 12.12 'Increase of irrigation scheme inter-region claim on water') decreased by 2,662 ML. This volume included:
2,500 ML of water allocations sold by BIL in June 2012, including 1,700 ML traded to the Victorian lower Murray and 800 ML traded to the Goulburn Murray.
forfeiture of 162 ML unused water allocation held by BIL for which carryover was not permitted at 30 June 2012 (see line item 4.2 Irrigation scheme inter-region claim on water).
For more information on the nature of the River Murray water claimed by BIL, see line item 4.2 Irrigation scheme inter-region claim on water.
Quantification approach
Data source
South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) Water Information and Licence Management Administration (WILMA) database.
Provided by
Bureau of Meteorology (the Bureau) and DEWNR.
Method
The total volume of the line item 20.9 (2,662 ML) was calculated according to the table below. Data from the WILMA data base provides that 2,500 ML of water was traded out in June 2012. The difference between 2,662 ML and 2,500 ML represented the volume of unused River Murray water allocation for which carryover was not permitted at 30 June 2012.
