Daly
18.8 Entitled extraction of non-allocated groundwater to users

Supporting information

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (1,170 ML) represents the volume of non-allocated groundwater extracted to individual users in the Daly region during the 2011–12 year.

These extractions are made by small volume groundwater users within the Daly Roper Water Control District. Because these extractions are less than 5 ML/year/property, they are not required to be licensed (according to the Water Act 1992).

Total volume of non-allocated extractions from each groundwater resource within the Daly region during the 2011–12 year are shown in the table below.

Quantification approach

Data source

Department of Land Resource Management, Hydstra database and water allocation plans; Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, stock information.

Provided by

Department of Land Resource Management and Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.

Method

The volume presented for this line item is an estimate. The estimated data are based on water allocation plans for the relevant groundwater resource or spatial assessments that factor in variables such as stock water requirements, number of properties and distance stock must travel for water.

More information on water allocation plans in the region (Tindall and Oolloo aquifers) can be found at the Department of Land Resource Management website.

Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations

There is not sufficient information relating to actual extraction to provide more accurate estimates of non-allocated extractions by individual users. The entire volume extracted by individual users is based on estimated data.

Uncertainty information

The uncertainty is unquantified.
