9.6 Overbank flood return to river channel
The volume of floodwater that returned to the river channel during the 2011–12 year cannot be quantified accurately due to a lack of available data.
Most streams in the upper reaches of the Daly region flow in confined channels; however, during periods of major flooding in the lower Daly River overbank flow inundates the floodplains. Some of this overbank flow is expected to return to the river channel, but this volume is likely to be relatively small. Therefore, the omission of this volume in the water account does not have a material impact on the water balance of the surface water store.
