South East Queensland
11.6 Delivery of desalinated water to urban water system
Supporting information
The volumetric value for the line item at the end of the 2011–12 year was 3,427 ML.
The Gold Coast desalination plant was designed and constructed in response to the unprecedented drought in South East Queensland and the need for a non-climate dependent water source.
This line item represents the volume of potable water produced by the Tugun desalination plant located within the Gold Coast Water Resource Plan area (3,427 ML), and transferred into the South East Queensland (SEQ) water grid.
Quantification approach
Data source
Seqwater WaterHub database metered data (meter M-056-MW) provided by Seqwater.
Provided by
SEQ Water Grid Manager (merged with Seqwater since July 2013).
Method
Based on master meter readings (meter M-056-MW) summed to provide an annual total. The data were extracted from the WaterHub database by the SEQ Water Grid Manager; however, the original meter reading and data entry into the database were undertaken by WaterSecure (WaterSecure merged with Seqwater on 1 July 2011).
Assumptions, limitations, caveats and approximations
None.
Uncertainty information
Meter manufacturer (Promag) estimates an accuracy of 0.26 to 0.37%.
