Canberra
10.5 Leakage from off–channel water storage

Supporting information

This process occurs in the Canberra region, but the volume could not be quantified due to the lack of both data and a suitable quantification approach.

This line item refers to the water that leaks for off–channel water storages to the ground water system. Off–channel storages include landscape water reservoirs (farm dams), which exist in the Canberra region. Further information on the total number and estimated volume of off–channel storages can be found in line item 27.1 Off–channel water storages. The leakage from off–channel water storages can not be quantified, but it is expected the magnitude of this flow would be less than line item 10.4 Recharge from surface water and line item 10.3 Recharge from landscape, as these storages are usually well constructed, maintained and are often lined with plastic. The omission of this value is not material to the groundwater balance.
